Unemployment up to 5.7
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 08:37 AM by demdem
Hmmm-308,000 jobs created. Bush still 2.2 milion jobs away from hi prediction of 2.6 million jobs.

4. The number of new jobs goes down and the unemployment rate drops
The number of new jobs increases and the unemployment rate goes up? Can someone explain how that can be possible? Thanks in advance.

Don

5. I will give it a shot
Has something to do with more people wanting jobs than actually has gotten a job. Don't stick me too this, I heard this on CNN. Anyway you need 150,000 jobs a month to keep up with the dropoffs. So far this year Bush has not kept up with this number needed.

6. Here's the detailed figures
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t01.htm

including those who want a job, but don't come in the official definition of unemployed.

Seasonally adjusted figures (in thousands):

Feb 2004 Mar 2004 change
employed 138,301 138,298 -0.002%
unemployed 8,170 8,352 +2.228%
want a job 4,746 4,843 +2.044%

So seasonally adjusted, it was a decrease in employment from February to March. Those looking for work increased. That doesn't sound like good news to me.
