Pentagon: 'Chemical Ali' Killed in Attack
Tuesday, April 8, 2003

WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon believes "Chemical Ali," Saddam Hussein's cousin who ordered a chemical attack on Kurds in northern Iraq in 1988, is dead, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld confirmed Monday.
U.S. aircraft bombed a Baath party meeting in a residence Saturday. On Friday, two U.S. aircraft bombed Ali's Basra home. He was caught by the second bomb, according to military officials.
"We believe that the reign of terror of 'Chemical Ali' has come to an end. To Iraqis who have suffered at his hand, particularly in the last few weeks in that southern part of the country, he will never again terrorize you or your families," Rumsfeld said.

16. I think he was giving them credit
for killing him in a bomb attack in April 2003, and then managing to capture him alive in August of 2003. That actually is a pretty impressive feat if you think about it.

18. I just chalk that up to mistaken identity
Maybe they really did think it was him.

Either way, this is pretty small potatoes, IMO.

2. Wonder if it's true? How much of this creature is left after a bombing?
I have always thought it would be an easy way for the Bushco to claim victory in having gotten all those "bad guys". After a bombing, just say they're dead.

9. How many alQeda #2's have we caught or almost caught?
Notice also how Iraqis leap up the rankings as we catch them.

23. what I always ask is....

how long have they been saying they caught 2/3s of the AQ leadership?

it's been MONTHS.

did they catch 2/3 and then NOT catch any more?

or, were they lying?

(duh, they have NO idea how many AQ there are but that SOUNDS really good and if they REPEAT it often enough people believe they've actually DONE something...

27. I saw CNN spinning Cofer Black's testimony yesterday
As they shoed him testifying the crawl said that 50-70% of alQeda had been caught or captured.....the voice over added/spun that that was the 9/11 alQeda (voice over ended). They really don't exist (for several reaons) any more and have little to do with the attacks 450 people in March.

The fact that those a-holes have probably at least tripled in size was not mentioned nor was what Roger Cresey said this morning on NBC that the fact that they don't have a host country anymore makes them more dangerous and harder to catch.

Are you crazy?

Murder is murder and without fair representation and a trial he was murdered - no exceptions no matter how despicable the character is.

15. Yes but....
What I meant was that they have the ability to kill AND capture the same person and in that order.

Pretty impressive :eyes:

This WE KILLED HIM!!!! stuff is ridiculous. Yes it is a war but the ease with which it passes through the airwaves leads to the acceptance of shooting first and asking questions later.

19. I still remember all the times
that they managed to kill Saddam Hussein before finally capturing him nearly a year after the invasion.

I remember they killed him in a bomb attack the first night, then about 3 weeks later they killed him again when they bombed a restaurant in Baghdad where he was at, even though they actually missed the restaurant and took out several adjacent houses and a couple dozen civilians. They still gave the bomber pilot a medal for it.

Then they killed him again when they bombed a convoy of sheep smuggler. I think they killed him a couple of other times as well.

Finally several months later, they actually managed to capture him. They seem to be doing pretty well with this resurrection of the dead thing.
