Question for those reading Clarke's book
I just finished his book and I find myself wondering what he'll do next. I know he's teaching and working for his own company, but the man has such a "laser-beam" mind when it comes to terroism that I think it would be a serious mistake to not have his expertise advising us in some capacity.

Thoughts about the book?

1. I agree with you
that it seems such a waste of experience and dedication to a cause for him to not return (in some capacity) to counter-terrorism.

He's already sworn, under oath, to not take a position in Kerry's administration should he win the election. I wonder if he could sign on as an outside consultant.

It really worries me that we have lost so many of the experienced and competent players in the last few years. I think it leaves us with a vulnerability.

Sigh..... at least we'll have Rand Beers.

2. I agree BUT
He is pissed, if they would have listened to him in the last 10 yrs, we wouldn't be in this position. I totally agree with him that Al-Quada is now every person in the world with an ax to grind against the US.

Could of, would of, should of.... I don't think even he knows how to clean up this mess now.

4. yes and that's
what's scarey--the Islamic world has a huge ax to grind now that we have invaded Iraq and it won't get any better if Bush gets a second term.

What I found to be scarey was the thought of AlQuaida getting their hands on a nuclear bomb. Clarke made that point over and over.

Americans generally are just naive.

In his book he talks of so many that got frustrated and left. I know they still care about how to keep our country safe, but it sure does seem like a waste of a good talent to not use it to its full capacity--like he had been while working in Clinton's administration.

I found myself getting so mad, especially towards the end when he talked about how Wolfowitz and Rumsfield were so "flippant" about bin laden, almost as if they were being caddy about it.

I also see now why Dick Cheney says Clarke was "out of the loop." The "loop" being Rumsfield, Wolfowitz, Rice, and the other "vulcans." Clarke had moved foward after all those years and they still were fighting an old war, but with a new motive. It all comes together now and the pieces fall right into place.

Now that the Bush administration refuses to hand over the information the 9/11 committee wants from the Clinton years, it should be no doubt that Clarke is indeed telling the truth--but then reading Clarke's book you know he couldn't be making up this stuff. It's just too clear and precise.

5. I thought I read earlier that the admin was going to give Clinton
stuff, they reversed themselves again around 2-3 hours ago.
