The government is my servant, I know this because:

(Please list below the reasons why you know that this government 'works for you/is serving your needs. Please list reasons why you know that all of your tax dollar are working for YOU (and your future).

1. Not
The government doesn't work for or serve our needs. My tax dollars are not working for me or my future. I can't imagine you getting any different answers than the above. This is no longer a representative government.

3. "We" are the government
Government gets so much blame but it is we who are responsible for it.

While we were sleeping we let our representative government get away. Sometimes it's quite difficult to regain something we've lost.

4. It got me through college
I received many many times more money from Federal grants and loans than I ever did from my parents or from working at minimum wage jobs.

If you don't mind me asking, what time period was this that you got the grants? Is there something similar now that you know of? Please supply as many specifics as you feel comfortable.

7. late 1970's - early 1980's
Before Reagan decimated these programs. Work study, National Direct Student Loans, and Guarenteed Student Loans. NDSL = 3%, GSl = 7%, at a time when market interest rates were 12%+

Sad that students cannot benefit from these anymore.

college education: funding Pell Grants and subsidizing student loans;
grants for university programs
funding workstudy

mortgage: funding FHA, VA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac to back private banks so that they can offer mortgages I can afford

Banking regulation: keeping my bank honest and interest rates are capped.

Securities and Exechange Commission: Keeping my broker honest.

Pension Guarantee Corporation: Makes sure my pension isn't tapped into by corporate thieves.

FDA: making sure my drugs are safe and really work

Department of Labor (state): unemployment insurance

Medicaid/Medicare: kept my mom alive... made sure Mom was not a burden on us kids.

SBA: gives loans to small business
