Reality check
Yesterday another story broke about an intelligence agent that said he warned Bush months before 9-11 that there were plans to fly planes into buildings. This is backed up by paperwork. There was buzz here on the site that this may finally be the smoking gun that will wake up America.
I watched the news and Inside politics and NOBODY mentioned the story.

They even got off the hook for telling CNN that Letterman used special effects to put that yawning kid behind him.
Today on NBC the kid was reading a letter from Bush on the air saying it's o.k. to be tired and bored. And everyone in front of the camera had a laugh.
None of his lies will ever stick to him. Even though people are dying because of them. If John and Jane 6 pack paid attention to current events the upcoming election would be a landslide for Kerry. But the news networks run the stories for a few days (sometimes)and than it dissapears. Even our brave men and woman dying in Iraq has been moved to the middle of newpapers. Something they are calling "Iraqi War Fatigue" by the general public.

The sad truth is the Bush lies never go further than left wing web sites and it will be a close election. And there is a real chance Bush and his merry band of thieves that steal from the poor and give to the rich could get another 4 years.
And that-on many levels-frightens the hell out of me.
I welcome anyone who can tell me I am wrong because I just don't want to believe a President could blatantly get away with so many atrocities and still win an election. But the reality became all too clear to me yesterday.

4. Welcome to DU LS!
You are right, and they are masters of using
weapons of mass distraction.
Change the subject is their specialty.

2. There is something wrong here
The polarization of the electorate still lets Bush get a guaranteed 40% of the vote. The media could hammer these stories 24-7 and there still might not be a noticable effect in the polls. Maybe it all needs time to sink in. These stories HAVE gotten coverage by the way.
It just needs time.

3. Welcome to DU NJ!
Great Post- you are a splendid writer.
I will be very pleasantly, gratefully actually, surprised
if we do not see another four years of the Bush Empire.
There are several dimensions to why I feel that we will.
I believe that the point we have reached has
been carefully and deviously orchestrated for the
majority of my lifetime. (I am 44 years old)
I believe the momentum and foundation of the Bush Empire
was secured nearly 25 years ago and what has been
unfolding since was unoticed the the majority of people
in this country. I believe there was a deliberate effort
to create a culture that nutured the comfort level of
Americans, They created an environment, in other words,
that encouraged unquestioning complaceny. Everybody
feel under the spell of consumerism and the culture of
"ME," "my stuff," "my happines, "me first." Meanwhile,
the corporations providing us with goodies to keep us
in comfort queitly consolidated, merged and mongered
their way into "absolute control over every living soul..."
as Leonard Cohen warned us they would. But we were
comfortable, so who cared? We had our toys and
reality altering drugs, so whoopee! Over indulgence
of any type, for a long enough period of time, will eventually
destroy a very important peice of the soul. Just one
look around your neighborhood should prove that.
I have never seen a more callous population than we have
fostered here in this country. Even the so-called "spiritual"
people among us are some of the greediest people I have
ever encountered, if you get to close to their "stuff."
And their spirituality is motivated by their desire to be "happy"
not to make someone else happy. Again the "me-my-mine"
motivation cloaked in some seemingly high purpose.
All in all, the combination of people who are shallow
and extremely ignorant, not stupid, mind you, rather IGNORANT
because they don't HAVE to know anything that "matters,"
and the completely consolidated corporate power is
a recipe for disastor. The power cabal is not about to
give up what they have worked towards for so many years.
They lie, cheat and steal with impunity, and the people,
as in WE the people, they lie to are far too self-centered
and easily divided by issues based in emotional self-righteousness
are far too busy pursuing our happiness agendas to actually
understand what has happened and is happening.
The Empire is always ten years ahead of us.
That is what frightens me- especially when you read the
Patriot Acts. The Patriot Acts suggest to me, that they
fully intend to be in power for four more years,
and then some.
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

7. Thanks
Stopping here once or twice a day has become a "fix" for me. Before I found DU, I was beggining to think I was in that movie "The Body Snatchers" and everyone was a "pod person" but me!

5. FEAR!!!
the media are AFRAID of what the Bushies will do to them if they report.

I heard a great example this morning on NPR. Daniel Schorr was talking about how Bush and Cheney were going to testify together.

You could tell what he wanted to say, and he could have just quoted Pelosi on this. But he didn't say it. You could tell he was self-censoring. Now this guy's over 80 and you'd think would have nothing to lose.

But he was clearly afraid to state the truth.

Remember, these Bush guys are bullies and thugs equal to any mafia crime family. They have bullied the media into submission and silence.

It will take a lot of courage to break out of this. And I don't really see anyone in the mainstream who has that kind of courage.

6. And THAT is the real concern-
We berate the media for their lack of truth, but what we
need to really contemplate is the fact that they are
TRULY afraid. As in scared. Frightened of consequence.
I have a feeling that it is indicative that they know some
things that we can't imagine. As in just how far these people
will go to maintain power. Sort of like if you knew your neighbor
killed the neighbor on the other side of him from you.
The offense? The other neighbor complained about
him stealing his newspaper. WELL, if that was the punishment
for that crime, what? Are you going to complain that
he killed the other guy?
I think that is what our media is dealing with.
I really, really do.
