What would NATO gain from sending troops from Iraq?
Both numbnuts and Kerry say they want to turn Iraq over to somebody like NATO or the UN. Why to hell would the people living in the countries that opposed the war -- I'm going to use NATO as an example -- support sending their young people to get their asses shot off in a situation that isn't going to get better very fast because it is currently WAY out of control just to pull Yank nuts out of the fire? What on earth is in it for them?

I also will use Luxembourg as an example, because I know the country well. Luxembourg reluctantly abandoned its neutrality after WW II (and two German occupations in the first 50 years of the 20th century). Basically, the Luxembourgisch Army trains future police for the country. Luxembourg strongly opposed the war in Iraq. Don't you think that if the prime minister agreed to send young Luxembourgers to die after all that has happened, that a hell of a lot of the people would be out on the streets demanding his head on a platter? Yes, I know the line of blather about making the world safer....wasn't that the point of this whole misadventure? It hasn't happened and the Madrid bombing is proof positive of that.

I could use a similar analogy for Ireland and the Irish people's reaction to their kids being sent to Iraq.

Why wouldn't they take the "You broke it, you bought it and pay for it?" attitude that I keep hearing so much about. Or, what would we have to bribe them with to rescue aforementioned chestnuts?

1. NATO would gain nothing except Dumbya's 'gratitude'
Hey, that was enough for Euro-poodle Tony B-Liar, right? Actually, if it looks like Shrub will be elected, NATO might actually commit some troops, since they don't want to live with a vindictive Chimp for the next four years.

Right now, Chimpy's status isn't so clear, so they are holding back.

4. They Would Gain Nothing, Ma'am
And there is no real reason to expect anyone will step up to pull the chestnuts out of the fire....

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

7. Sir, have you considered the possibility
that Europe might want to get it's feet in the door, so to speak, in order to prevent the US from having a monopoly in Iraq?

Or is our power in the region so great that the Europeans wouldn't even dream of competing?

5. Under Democratic Or Responsible US Leadership- Security
when your neighbor's house is on fire, it behooves you to help put out the flames.

But this only makes sense if your neighbor is NOT pouring gasoline on the fire.

6. The only possible thing they MIGHT
gain is if force could stabilize the ME enough to prevent increased displaced Muslim immigration into Europe, which is already tense with any increase in these populations or their influence on representative governments - not to mention potential harboring of terrorists.

"Eurabia" is becoming fact - and they may be comfortable using NATO to help stave it off.

However, it would be a very hard sell to their people - especially given the large numbers of Muslims and others already opposed to the war. They would have to sell it to the non-Muslim portions of their nations by subliminal racism.
