Just thought of something on Al-Sadr
Edited on Tue Apr-06-04 01:07 PM by bluestateguy
(is that the guy's name?)

Could it be that the Bush Administration is building up this guy to be a big villian so that it will be a big public boost for them when he is caught. If bin Laden is not captured they will need new boogeymen to capture as "evidence" that the war is progressing well.

3. Maybe... but this will backfire
They won't have time to build him up as the new bin Laden, it's all going to blow up in our faces before we have a chance to mythologize about who the baddest bad guy might be.

What the "coalition" is doing is introducing a religious element into what has been, up to this point, widely perceived as a secular conflict. It has been USA versus Ba'ath, and that perception has kept the majority of Muslims in Iraq from mobilizing against the occupying forces. But once this Muslim cleric becomes the the locus of our military offensive, even moderate Muslims will be radicalized. Already, Iraqi troops armed and trained by the US have turned on our guys and started shooting at them. All we need to do is make a martyr out of Al-Sadr, and we are going to have a full-on war on our hands, our troops against the populace of Iraq (aided and abetted by Iran and who know who else).

This is such a huge fuck up, I can't believe no one sees the potential here for disaster. It's going to end up Muslims versus Christians in the minds of most people in the ME, and at that point we are totally screwed.

I am praying for our soldiers today, I really am.

8. so we'll go after him
and elevate him as a martyr and he'll become a folk hero.
How ingenius. If g-d forbid our country was ever overtaken and occupied and 60% of the population was unemployed, and women couldn't leave their homes without multiple male escorts. . .how would we react. . .?
