Chirac Says Worsening Situation In Iraq Is Very Worrying
French President Jacques Chirac is very concerned by the escalating violence in Iraq and hopes the transfer of power from the US-led coalition to Iraqis on June 30 will lead to a radical change, his office said on Tuesday.
"(Chirac) thinks the worsening situation is extremely worrying and it strengthens his conviction that we must do everything possible to make sure June 30 is a success and that it leads to a real and radical change," his office told AFP.
The comments came after Chirac held a meeting in Paris with Syrian Vice-President Abdel Halim Khaddam that had focussed essentially on Iraq and lasted one and a half hours, according to the president's office.

1. Chirac's apparant priorities are misplaced

He supposedly opposed the invasion, thus should not wish the occupation well. It brings to mind the day of the aggression, when he & the German premier called up W and bid the crusade good luck. Such fake pretensions towards opposition is worse than open and honest support.
