BELLEVUE, Wash. - A software company voluntarily released the source code for its paperless ballot verification system on Tuesday, marking a first in the increasingly controversial electronic-voting market.

As a software guy I hate all thought of computerized voting.

1. How will they handle recounts without paper?
Oh, they can't. So how does this help, exactly?

Oh, it doesn't.

2. Giving people code-numbers after they vote is bogus.
Giving people code-numbers after they vote is bogus.

There is nothing stopping them from giving multiple people who made the same selections the same code.

We don't need to make voting more complicated.

To vote for President, people should write "Bush" or "Kerry" on a piece of paper, drop the piece-of-paper into a transparent ballot box, and then be allowed to wait to watch the vote counted after voting with a roomful of citizens.
