Can someone explain to me why we had a warrant for al-Sadr
months before they it was brandished on monday?

"U.S. officials would not explain why they were only releasing word of the warrant Monday. They said an unnamed Iraqi judge had issued it in the past months."

1. they needed a new PR boogeyman to go after...
to make Bush look like he's chasing the bad guys. He's slipping after the recent mercenary deaths and has to have something to make him seem like a stand-up guy

They will catch him, maybe even kill him, and shit will go on just the same...

IMHO

2. but, what made them get a warrant so early? Do we have warrants on other
bad guys, and are just waiting for them to do things, so we can say, "ha! we got a warrant, and we're on his ass!"

..?

I only just heard that the warrant was old, via the above post

It just seems so weird. Either, they have a stash of ready-made warrants in a vault somewhere...
or they're lying about it. and I don't know why they'd be doing that.

5. reeks of dead fish:
-snip-
"The U.S.-led coalition announced a murder warrant against al-Sadr on Monday and suggested it would move to capture him soon. U.S. officials would not explain why they were only releasing word of the warrant Monday. They said an unnamed Iraqi judge had issued it in the past months."

a murder warrant issued months before the murders, an un-named Iraqi judge (why isn't this cleric an 'enemy combatant' to be dealt with accordingly? Hell, Saddam had no "warrant"!), and an official refusal to explain it.

this entire paragraph reminds me of the 'color' they always add to their PR stunts, which later on inevitably are proven to be bullshit.

6. Well, that's a whole lot of color if that's what it is. It implies that
our president's war is being conducted without keeping the people fully informed.

...
oh.

7. typical though
a paragraph in a news item to discuss over the water-cooler, nothing more

repube A: "yeah, them terra-ists killed 4 mercenaries, I mean contractors, those bastards!"

repube B: "that's ok, Bush is on this evil cleric guy's ass, he even has a warrant out for him!"

repube A: "wow, there really IS a new sheriff in town! God bless G Dubya!"

repubes A&B: "amen"

8. Probably Convenient Trumped Up Charges.
Hey, it works here in America, why not in the budding Iraqi democracy?

10. He pissed on the rose garden
that Iraqis were just getting ready to harvest petals from to throw on our troops. Really screwed up the Neocons transition plans.
