Rumor on real number of Marines killed yesterday
I heard a rumor last night that there were actually more like 130 Marines killed yesterday but the real numbers were being kept from us. Has anybody else heard anything about this? Of course I can't find anything confirming it yet.

2. Saw comments here or... uh, somewhere else...
that Faux initially reported 130, later downgraded to "only 12"- there was at least one thread yesterday which referred to the Faux story.

4. Too bad we're 'not allowed' to honor the fallen
or even know what goes on at Dover AFB. Then we might have a real clue about the truth.

I'm really fed-up with all of this secrecy and 'hidden-ness'!

5. not even a hint here in the US
I heard the initial 12 marines killed and that there were at least 4 similar ambushes on other groups of marines, but no casualty reports from them. Hard to imagine with ALL the fighting going on that those 12 were the only ones killed.

6. Sky News UK website, but not on-air, said 130 unconfirmed...
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 10:23 AM by DeepModem Mom
"soldiers" dead last night. The number 130 is repeated in their reporting today, with the 130 deaths not specified:

WAR OF WORDS AFTER DEATH

A senior US general in Iraq has vowed to destroy the militia of a radical cleric behind a wave of attacks against Coalition forces.

But wanted man Moqtada al Sadr remained unbowed, demanding power be taken from the US and its collaborators.

His statement came after fighting between members of the militia and occupying troops intensified with 130 deaths in Shi'ite areas of Iraq since Sunday....

ON EDIT: Do others read this as 130 Iraqi deaths, or unspecified deaths?

7. On the coast to coast show, or somtin'?
Heard that as well. Don't remember this persons name. Said Syria and Iran smuggling in weapons and troops... chemical weapons... old Iraqi Army sitting in wait.... things will get really bad in next several weeks...

All strange stuff. Kept saying to my wife...."I hope this guy is full of shit, and none of this is true"

8. Yup, that's where I heard it
But I was half asleep and I always take everything I hear on that show with several grains of salt.

Thanks for the help.

17. He did make a good point or two....
He did say how the warrant for Sadr was issued back in October, which is true. That we should have taken him then.

I use to dismiss most "tin-foil" stuff, but anymore.....

19. I heard that as well, on C2C show last night
he said he had "sources in the military" he couldn't reveal and that there were "many, many multiples" of the dozen dead reported.

11. if that's anywhere near the real number . . .
and if the American people learn about it, Bush is toast . . . losing ten or twelve guys in a day is one thing; losing over a hundred is something that people would respond to with anger and disbelief . . . I really hope it's not true . . . but knowing how this administration operates, I fear that it might be . . . if so, they can't keep it hidden forever . . . these guys will have to be brought home for burial, and eventually someone will do the math . . .

15. Seems odd, but credibility remains an issue here...
...from an administration that has lied continuously, most people are still willing to accept the casualty figures that are released. If even they were shown to be based on lies, (or even questioned) the whole thing crashes.

16. NO, 130 Marines killed is not correct. I posted a story from MSNBC
yesterday, when we were trying to get some kind of official word as to the extent of the casualties. The article said up to 12 Marines killed and 130 (probably low) Iraqis killed over the last couple of days. I believe that in the early confusion, this contributed to the 130 figure. Sorry cannot find a link.

18. 130 is actually the estimated number of Iraqi martyrs yesterday
The figure for Marines and other occupation forces was about 2 dozen. That will be a larger figure today.
