Why does FOX call it the "elite media"

O'Reilly, Hanratty, Fox and Friends all call the netweork news channels the "elite media". That makes no sense. Tens of millions of people watch the network news every night, but only 2 million people a night, at nest, watch Fox News programs. You have to have cable to watch Fox News and that costs money, while NBC, CBS and ABC do not require the purchase of cable TV. So how can the networks be "elite" if they are free of charge while Fox News requires payment of a monthly cable bill that many ordinary people cannot afford?

The same tactics are used to seperate peasants from the academics who know what a corrupt regime is doing to them. CAN YOU SAY CLASS WARFARE? Americans are suspicious of people who know more than they do and the Repubs use that to paint whistle-blowing truth-tellers as elites, snobs, PRACTICALLY FUCKING WITCHES, FER CHRIST'S SAKE!!

Its part of the anti-intellectual bent of the right wing. Intellectuals typically realize that the world is not black and white, but that most issues are shades of gray. The right wing depends on a black and white world view so they disparage any kind of in depth analysis. Plus "elite" implies a powerful minority that is NOT LIKE US, i.e. the archetypal THEM.

The right wing depends on fear-mongering and division to attract support that their philosophy otherwise would not generate. Unfortunately they have been spectacularly successful in using these tactics to convince main-stream non-political America that they are much more conservative than they really are.
