Irony or hypocrisy or both?

Remember how conservative war supporters were wringing their hands about how horrible it was that Saddam so ruthlessly put down any uprising against his government?

Now the same conservatives are demanding that the US ruthlessly put down any uprising against the new government.

Irony? Hypocrisy? Or both?

They should make the Top Ten Conservative Idiots en masse this week.

That is what we are experiencing right now.

A shock and awe campaign of hypocrisy, by an administration whose motto is Lie Big or Stay Home.

Yes, it is hypocritical to complain about Hussein ruthlessly crushing any potential uprising while demanding that the U.S. use the same tactics to protect the new government. However, these conservatives really have no grasp on reality. They have told themselves a series of lies about this war. They believe that this war was about avenging 9/11, defending us from Hussein's WMD, and liberating the Iraqi people from Saddam Hussein.

Of course, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and it certainly looks like the WMD were a figment of Bush's imagination. Now they are desperately clinging to the fantasy about this war being a war of liberation. To them, the Iraqis who are currently fighting against the coalition troops and the new government are terrorists while those who fought against Hussein were freedom fighters. They also think that the Iraqis deserve whatever they get because they are so "ungrateful."
