I spoke to a few people today about the mosque bombing.
Two of them, both middle-of-the-road fairly liberal people, attempted to defend it, saying 'BBC is reporting that there were gunmen inside the mosque firing at the soldiers'.
Now, it's obvious to me that this report is very possibly a baldfaced lie straight from the Pentagon, but hey, by this time, the average guy has already spent the 5 minutes per day that he allocates to keeping up on world affairs..he has heard a 'fact' and usually been told what to think about the 'fact', time's up.
I think it's important to inform people of a few facts about 'manufacturing consent': that the Pentagon produces reams of reports and 'news releases' every day; that most media outlets do not have people on the ground in Fallujah; that even if they did have a reporter there it's quite possible that he is moonlighting at the CIA (like in Operation Mockingbird).
