Poll question: Will the August 6th PDB be declassified?
Supposedly the White House is "working to declassify it" right this very minute. It is possible they might pull back and say "well we wanted to, but we can't," but I think at this point they pretty much have to. So the real question is, how much of it will be declassified?

1. The Cat is out of the Bag
If they do not declassify the whole document, people will know they are covering up something. It is the old Watergate thing, it wasn't the crime but the cover up that killed Nixon.

3. I agree
The media, for one, will not let it rest if the administration does attempt to coverup parts of the PDB. Nor will the commission, or the family members of the victims. I think the administration will declassify it but try to limit the damage with the caveat that this particular warning was a "general" one that didn't include "specific information."

Of course, we know that there were other warnings that DID include specific information. Particularly the warnings from foreign governments (the French, Russians, and Israelis in particular). If the Bush Admin. tries the above angle I expect that the administration will then pull this cat out of the bag.

They are screwed. The ball is rolling and I don't think there is any stopping it now.

4. I think the document is
going to be more damning from what one commissioner said, it was like "Let the people reading this determine that".

5. It will be somewhat damning by itself
But when put into context that the Commission still has yet to provide (but will), it will spell out LIHOP.

8. That was Ben-Veniste. He was great as usual!
He made everybody realize that Condi was draging out her responses to exhause the interviewers time allotment.

He sure has had a lot of face time on all the tv talk shows ever since too!

If I ever get in trouble, I only wish I could afford HIM!

2. We won't see the whole thing.
It will be redacted. Security, you know.

6. I don't think they'll declassify it
They'll cite "sources and methods" and ratchet up the classification--as if you can put a higher classification on something than the PDB has.

This kind of thing is downgradable with "originating agency's determination required." Basically, if the WH decides they don't want anyone to see it, they can and there's not a fuckin' thing you can do about it.

However, if they try it that may be the one thing that causes the Republicans in Congress to vote to impeach the SOB and the rest of his criminal administration.

7. at the risk of sounding stupid again
Couldn't we get around the declassification by asking those who wrote the memo what is in it? I assume it was written by someone (who?) and sent to Rice to brief the president.
