Six refinery fires in last 2 weeks!
First there was the FBI warning that terrorists had targeted oil refineries in Texas. There was an explosion in a Texas refinery. And these other fires turned up when searching the internet. Is something going on that the bush admin. does not want to let us know about all this?

1. Fuck.
Great. New Jersey is next. We are home to Amerada Hess. Not to mention a plethora of refineries. Not to mention nearby chemical plants. God forbid they report real news rather than Janet's tit.

9. That is what I was thinking after the Justice Dept.
announcement on Reliant price gouging California. Could this be the start of the gouging of America on oil and gas--more than the usual summer gouging? Perhaps they will want to invade oil producing countries for their oil--since Iraq hasn't exactly worked out as a source of oil after all.

6. Maybe someone could search for fires back to March 1
to see what that would turn up. Have to sign off for tonight. Let's watch this and if there appears to be something to this, then perhaps we could bring it to the attention of the appropriate sites/ or to Air America tomorrow.

8. Repeating What Other DU'ers Have Said Regarding This
Other DU'ers who know about refineries said there's a lot of volatile chemicals/fumes and fires aren't uncommon.

And fires are especially not uncommon during spring when heating oil is no longer in demand.

10. Not what it appears.
I read the reports above. To the best of my ability it looks like the same fire was reported three times and two others fires did happen. Thats a total of three fires in refineries.

Ok, so lets all calm down and think for a moment. How often do these type of fires occur in oil refineries. It is very possible that these are not outside the norm.

How often do you notice a certain type of vehicle on the road, until you buy one yourself. Then suddenly, there are hundreds. Maybe not a good analogy, but, it gets the point across.

Go back and find out how many oil refinery fires occurred in 2000.

Good luck.

11. Correction: MAY not be what it appears.

But Gingergal has made an interesting observation which she, or someone, should check further. It may be, after all, that she is right.

As you said in your post, the number of fires this year should be compared to the number of fires in other years -- more research is definitely required.

Welsome to DU, sic semper! :hi: You've joined at an interesting time.
