“Tired of Swatting Flies”
Does anyone else here see the significance of that statement? Consider this:

You’re a bunch of old cold warriors. You’re used to seeing every reversal of US fortune abroad as a cleverly disguised attack from the USSR. The USSR is gone, but the attacks continue.

Your Pinko opponents see a shadowy network of fundamentalist Muslims called "al Qaeda". But you’re not so easily fooled. You see state sponsored terrorism coming from an Axis of Evil.

While the Pinkos want you follow international law and arrest the terrorists, you know that defeating the evil doers is the only option. And that means invasion and occupation.

So how can you convince the US public and your allies to see things your way? Simple: STOP SWATTING FLIES.

1. My interpretation:
Stop swatting files like bin Laden and little players in the terrorism game. Think big. Invade a Middle East country and set up a democracy. This will show them that we are serious. Iraq would be the ideal country to oinvade since he tried to kill my Daddy...We just need a legitimate reason to invade. We can say he has WMDs and is acquiring nuclear weapons to use against us and his neighbors....Yeah, that's the ticket.

3. Do you mean a' tit for tat 'thing?
She sure can talk, Condi, and both she and Bush use all those old cliche. Is that some thing with that Party or what? She sure must not know the meaning of yes or no. She would not make it in Maine. A state that has one word answers.

8. think big
I definitely see this as the administrations tactic. Yes Al Quida was responsible for 9-11 but we need to THINK BIG and cut the tree at the root, not just pare the limbs...or some such bullshit.

Forget what the rest of the world and the tree-huggers think, we know best what's in out National Interest.

It's paternalistic hegemony....

2. Which flies did he kill prior to 9/11?

I never even saw him with a swatter in his hand.

4. And that's the point. Turn off the whole anti-terror apparatus and...
wait for the inevitable result.

6. Kerrey brought this to the forefront quite effectively yestereday

KERREY: You've used the phrase a number of times, and I'm hoping with my question to disabuse you of using it in the future.

You said the president was tired of swatting flies.

Can you tell me one example where the president swatted a fly when it came to al Qaeda prior to 9/11?

RICE: I think what the president was speaking to was...

KERREY: No, no. What fly had he swatted?

RICE: Well, the disruptions abroad was what he was really focusing on...

KERREY: No, no...

RICE: ... when the CIA would go after Abu Zubaydah...

KERREY: He hadn't swatted...

RICE: ... or go after this guy...

KERREY: Dr. Rice, we didn't...

RICE: That was what was meant.

KERREY: We only swatted a fly once on the 20th of August 1998. We didn't swat any flies afterwards. How the hell could he be tired?

RICE: We swatted at -- I think he felt that what the agency was doing was going after individual terrorists here and there, and that's what he meant by swatting flies. It was simply a figure of speech.

10. I heard Kerrey on Frankin. He WAS poo-pooing any suggestion of LIHOP...
Perhaps that's why he wanted to "disabuse" Condi from using that phrase. Here he goes waaay out of his way to keep "Bush Knew" off the table, and Condi keeps saying that they were "tired of swatting flies".

Substituted "outgoing administration" for Pinko. Let's see if they print it.

11. Clarke repeated on NPR last night...
That he kept submitting plans and asking to present them to the pResident and Condi kept saying "not until after we've formulated a comprehensive policy".

Aside from the tons and tons of damning circumstantial evidence, we now have them pretty much admitting it in thinly veiled public announcements.

13. Swatting Flys Doesn't Garner Photo Ops On Carriers
or glorious footage of statues being torn down.

Remember, you're not actually doing something worthwhile unless an action has direct and overt benefit for your own personal political advantage.
