cheney coming to speak at FSU graduation; we're all just sick
This is just more of jeb rubbing our faces in it. FSU is a very liberal university as in Leon County. this is just sick. I hope out students turn their backs on him.

1. I have some aquaintances at FSU, if I'm not mistaken,
they have some pretty well organized and big student groups. Democrats, black students, etc.. How big of a protest do you think you could get?

2. Maybe they'll pipe in the applause
Like at the baseball game, for Bush. A story was posted here yesterday that when Bush threw out the first ball for the Cardinals, they were so worried about him being booed that they piped in applause over the PA system to drown out anything else.

Really.

Fucking fascists.

3. Organize a group boo when he walks out.
Nice loud one too. Then prehaps a mass exodus of parents and students. It would be interesting to see how many people remained.

4. Oh God,
I hope it's not the Friday night session.

My son is going there to honor the graduation of two of his friends. (He'll graduate in August). This will surely discourage him.

5. Oh god, I'm sorry.
Wow. That really sucks.

This makes me wonder if we could get some "ACC unity" going here, and bring protesters from all of the ACC schools. I mean, if we can get along, then anything's possible in the world! Can you imagine a coalition of Blue Devils, Tarheels, Deacons, Yellow Jackets, Seminoles, Virginia people, Terps, and Tigers standing side by side with signs? I know, kind of political theater, but kinda funny,... and a good press shot?

9. protest!
I'd choose not to walk before I'd sit and listen to Cheney. Organize a protest. Shouldn't be that hard. Write a letter to the college paper and see what happens.

12. Protest by boos and back turning for speech!

I can't believe that he would be bold enough to come to such a setting. He should stay at Bob Jones University.

Even though it would be a bold thing to do, I think it is a classic moment that the graduates will remember for the rest of their lives. They will be able to tell their children and grandchildren that" in 2004 I was brave enough to turn my back on the VP"unelected" to let the world know how unjust the war in Iraq was, I tried to make a difference for you and all the children of the future."

It would be wonderful for all of the parents to turn their backs too!

11. perfect opportunity for protest!
Something civil and completely shaming.

I like the idea of everyone turning their backs to him, then a slow chant starts...."murderer, murderer, murderer, murderer", getting louder and louder, building to a crescendo and he is shamed right outta there.

Wonder how many would go along?

Didn't Cheney get bumped from some appearance in NYC recently because he thought there would be a protest?

I would rather that he actually showed up so the news could catch it.

14. Do the speakers speak before or after you get the diploma??
If they speak first, you could all just bend forward in your seats, so that it shows on the pictures and can be seen from the stage.. Turning around would be difficult because you will no doubt , be seated..

If he speaks after, that would be cool, because you could just get your diploma, and then just walk on out of the area..

Also, if your parents will be there, it would be bad to embarrass them..

They probably seat by alphabet, so an organized grouping is unlikely.. Maybe you can protest in advance of his visit and get it cancelled.. If you insinuate that there will be a massive protest, the roach might scurry back into his hidey-hole :)

15. Nip it in the bud - start action now to CANCEL his speech
I read something about their push to give commencement speeches in key states - Cheney, Lynne, W, and Laura and it is really yucky.

Why not organize now, do a sit in at Univ Pres Office, and get it canceled? To me that will make more news than a few boos at the actual speech.

16. That sucks, buuuutttttt
There are plenty of ways to protest his ass.

Refuse to stand and clap, stand and turn your backs on him, they can't stop you.

What a shitty way to end your college years.

17. They can stop you, they did at OSU, either
last year or the year before. It was documented on DU. When someone, I forget the poster, turned his back, in the audience no less, they threw him out. And the university threatened to withhold diplomas if a rumored "turn your back" protest happened in the graduating class.

Ohio State University, by the way. Anyone else remember?

22. they can only stop you if you let them
I do remember that OSU story. It sickened me. And that was before 647 Americans had been sent to their deaths for no good reason.

18. start the protest now
A show of outrage now could perhaps keep him away. Rember they are all cowards at heart. Or you coould all put a lg Kerry sticker on you hats and hold them up as he speaks!

20. Boo, long and hard
If the administration threatens you, ignore them. If they withhold degrees from a large number of students they'd have lawsuits on their hands. It's time to stand up to bullying.

He probably won't be on stage when the grads are handed their degrees (security risk), but on the off chance he is make sure to give him the figure or spit on the ground as you pass him.

Fuck civility. These criminals don't deserve it.
