stated in his book that this was a false rumor, at least I think I remember reading that in his most excellant book.

"Supposed" it happened once...I have heard the number of times keep increasing. The person who "broke" the story is some comentator for Fox News. I think his is Pakistani. Can't remember his name. He always warns of spectacular events that never happen.

In short, I don't think this has been documented anyplace official.

Did it ever make US media?

The Saudis refused and, after 10 weeks of negotiation, the matter was closed and Sudan expelled bin Laden whereupon bin Laden took up residence in Afghanistan. Since bin Laden was expelled from Sudan on this occasion, they couldn’t have offered him after that.

The Taliban requested proof of his guilt. Bush had none and so he arrogantly refused. He had no intention of getting OBL because the invasion of Afghanistan had nothing to do with terrorism or OBL, it had to do with the Taliban refusing our deal for a pipeline in July 2001.
