Just had a "debate" with my neighbor...
I told him about the vintage store I am opening in a few weeks and how I am nervous due to the economic climate in our country. Well he starts in with, "that is why we need to keep the tax increase Dems out of office". I quickly responded that that is exactly who I am voting for and that he is going to increase taxes only on those making $200,000 plus. I also said that our taxes have gone up under * and that the rich are making out like bandits. He said that they are the ones that create the jobs, and I said yes, in China and India. I said to him that Bill Gates gets 4.3 billion back this year and is sending jobs abroad. I said that Kerry said he cannot stop it (outsourcing) but that we should not have to subsidize it. Then he said Kerry wants to get rid of some marriage benefit and I asked where he got the info, he said "hannity". I said "that right-wing freak, you need to listen to Lou Dobbs", to which he said that "left-wing freak". I said as he walked away, "Lou Dobbs is a conservative and a good American". I got to tell you I thought this guy was smarter than that.

3. Maybe "Right-wing freak" isn't the most persuasive argument
He certainly does have right-wing views, but sometimes, rarely. you can get people like that to change their opinions. But not by calling them names. I do see the temptation though. Just make sure you're well-stocked on sugar and gardening tools, so you're not forced to go borrowing one night.

2. Give him the Walton family as an example
They created 12 million jobs in China for the sub-contractors.
They created millions of $8.00 an hour jobs in the US.
The average Wal Mart store cost the US taxpayers $400,000 in
social costs each year because the company pays it workers
poverty-level wages. Yes, those rich folks are some job creating
machine.

4. Bush forgot to send them the memo
Bush must have been too busy, er...vacationing to send the rich people the memo that they were supposed to create jobs in this country. I'm sure if they knew that then we'd have plenty of jobs in this country by now. :eyes:

Jobs are created by demand for goods and services. The demand comes from the middle-class, not the rich. If we help the middle-class then they create demand which creates jobs. Why would rich people, given money they don't need, hire people they don't need with it? Why is such a simple concept so difficult for them to understand?
