Who's seen the new Peter Coors promotion/Coors beer ad?
It's supposed to be funny. I've seen Mr. Coors appear in his ads before, usually it's a short bit at the end of one as sort of a PSA telling people to "be responsible" or whatever.

In this one, obviously released to coincide with his senate campaign, he's the star, and it's an attempt at at humor, and I'm sure stupid people might find it funny for reasons I can't quite describe. He's having a monologue in his "regular guy" jacket outside on some mountain, talking about his beer, and then some dude in a lawnchair somewhere sunny and hot asks him if the Rockies are cold(or something like that) and Peter Coors gives a "what an idiot" type of look.

You'll have to see it for yourself, but I guess the shortest way to describe it is shameless self promotion, free from campaign finance rules.

I can't quite decide if he would be stronger than that congressman he's running against in the primary once the general election roles around. On the one hand he's got super name recognition. (the second most popular US beer, I beleive, and the states Baseball stadium among other things.) But he's also carries with him a silver-spoon nepotism ala dubya that many people might resent. However he will have mucho funds in a smaller state senate race and I believe that puts him slightly stronger than the other guy against us.

2. Haven't seen the ad, but
there was a great write-up on him by Diane Carmen in her Denver Post column today. She does talk alot about his commercials, though. . .

Marketing is a huge part of the company's budget. The advertising is strategic, calculated, wall to wall.

And almost all of it feels barely one step shy of a football recruiting orgy.

The Coors Light Twins lesbian incest fantasy series, the Guys Night Out philandering husband series, the endless varieties of ads designed to imprint the image that the Coors trademark really means nubile female flesh - all reflect a corporate culture that says, "Help yourself, boys. Have another."

Peter Coors has brought the company a long, long way from the days of the strikes, the protests and the boycotts. But he's still got a woman problem.

That's why in this race, he's set up to play the role of the hapless wingman.
