Porn popups on left-leaning sites
Anyone notice the hardcore porn popups that come up after you have been on a liberal site for a minute or two. Think these places have been hit by right-wing hackers??

1. nope
a lot of sites sell advertising, and have little or no control over what that advertising is.

2. I bet if we put left-leaning popups on porn sites...
saying "John Ashcroft Wants To Take Away Your Porn! = Vote Kerry"

voter turnout would go up 30% & Kerry would win in a landslide.

8. Have adware
Thing is, I have adware. Just aggravating when my 5 year old is standing here and then all of a sudden an image of a a blow job comes up. I'm all for people being able to see porn in their own homes - it should just be a choice, and I would prefer not to have my kids see it popup while I'm reading an article about what's going on in Iraq.

11. Do you have anti-virus software
Edited on Sun Apr-11-04 08:12 PM by proud patriot
cause it sounds to me you've picked up something .

You may want to run a test if you have anti-virus
software . If you don't have it you may want to
download a free version .

I hope you can figure out the problem
because I don't think it's the sites
Because I do not have this problem.

12. BHO
Sounds like one of those insidious Browswer Helper things that forces pop-ups. Switch to Opera or Mozilla.

5. Which sites?
Some sites use cookies to determine which ad to pop up. So if someone has been visiting adult sites, it would send an ad for another adult site.

No accusations...just observation! LOL! ;)

I don't think anyone has to settle for ads that are truly offensive to them. Why not email them and ask?

I'm 100% sure it's spyware, likely on "left" sites because you are more often on liberal websites than others, so it's coincidence.

20. NASTY new IE virus out...no patch yet
From another board....

------

Has anyone had any problems with Home Page with IE? If so watch out cause this is a worm and it is new. Rather then your standard home page your browser will launch to a Page Pitching Car Wreck Insurance, Shopping, or a Porn Link Page.

I've been doing some research but no one has a fix yet or has figured out what this thing is. You'll see this or mk@MSITSTORE in your address bar. or . . .

mk:@MSITStore:C:\WINDOWS\start.chm::/clk-start.html

------

"start.chm" in windows. If your problem is the mk:@MSITStore bugger.

C:\WINDOWS\start.chm

Try the following... I did it almost six hours ago and my home page has remained where had I set it to. Before i did this, my home page kept resetting to an unsolicited search site less than 10 minutes after I changed the home page.
1. with notepad, open start.chm. its in your c/windows. delete everything in it, and save.
2. Go to the site which you prefer to be your home page.
3. In the internet options, set the home page to the current site.
4. lastly, in c/windows, change the property of start.chm to read-only.

Don't delete the file. I suspect we will be hearing more about the "Ruskie" over the next week. Until a complete fix is available.

------

Here is the official warning site. Technical, but useful to some...

25. Had this problem a couple of weeks ago
Took me forever to fix it. Went to a site that was supposed to be an anti NCLB site (I'm a teacher), instead got bombarded with popups. Next thing I know my homepage was reset to about:blank with tons of porno links. Finally found the fix. Ran spybot and hijack this, plus Panda scan, installed adware, cleared up the problem. I will run spybot again and see what comes up. Just really annoying since tonight I was just going to alternative news sites that I usually go to. Thanks all!

21. Just one more reason
Why there should be a domain, such as .xxx or .sex, where adult content can be viewed as much as desired. This would make filtering easy for any parent/school/business that didn't want porn on their computers. It'd also make it much easier for me to find porn!

27. It was freaking Gator
For those that don't know, Gator is a software that when you go to a site, the gator-bot checks the site and if you go to one web site's competitor, pop ups will come up. Example, Gator once targeted UPS so when you went to a UPS site popups came up for Fed-Ex. Anyway, ran spybot and got rid of the shit. Probably picked it up this morning trolling freeper sites.
