Just what IS the punishment for high treason?
and if being warned about the possiblity of terrorist attacks by a dozen countries and not acting to prevent it, resulting in the deaths of 3,000 people, isn't treason, i don't know what is.

what would the charges be? criminal negligence? failure to act upon the threats? allowing it to happen?

what are some recent examples of criminal treason against the u.s.?

what punishment and prosecution could the bushco criminal crew be facing?

1. High treason does not apply!
High treason means treason against the King or Queen. Like King of England. we don't have anyone to commit high treason against. Just garden variety treason.

2. Depends on who you are

The 19 terrorists (7 still alive on 91201) who blew up the Pentagon and took down
the World Trade Center couldn't have pulled it off alone: they
had to have some form of state assistance, if only passive compliance.
Justin Raimondo

Flashback to Fascist attempt to hold Algeria:
The OAS even attempted to assassinate Charles de Gaulle
in 1962.

The main hope of the OAS was to provoke the FLN into
restarting military action after a cease-fire was agreed
in the Evian Accords of March and the referendum of June
1962; over 100 bombs a day were detonated by the OAS
in March. Despite the carnage the FLN remained resolute
and on June 17, 1962 the OAS agreed to the ceasefire. In
April 1962 its leader, Raoul Salan was captured. The group
was effectively eliminated by 1963. However the group
was granted an amnesty for its actions and few members
were properly tried or significantly imprisoned.

A member of the OAS is the principal villain in Frederick
Forsyth's fictional novel, The Day of the Jackal.

6. Exile maybe, like Benedict Arnold.

I would prefer that to the death penalty. Maybe stick them on an island in the South Atlantic for the rest of their lives.

3. I believe that you can get the death penalty for it
Like the Rosenburgs.

The recent case I can think of, the Ames case, the perp got a term of years, I think it was something like 40 years.

Then again, there's unconvicted treason committed by the President of the United States, but that just seems to earn him freeper worship and perhaps a God-given slow death by alzheimer's. Plus, he'll get a stamp after he finally does die.

7. Treason is such an ugly word ...

and under the constitution, what is apparently required is either actually levying war against US or an equivalent level of adherence to the enemy, with adequate witnesses to overt acts.

Presumably, you contemplate a LIHOP or MIHOP scenario. Completely independent of any facts, I consider (L/M)IHOP impossible under standard rules for mainstream US discourse; pushing either would fracture the critical center. Perhaps a case could be made, with "favorable" evidence, a hair short of LIHOP, but it would be costly to the country: remember that bitter Nixonites waited a quarter of century and spent tens of millions of dollars to seek revenge in the form of proceedings against Clinton; a treason trial of Bush would produce similar rancor.

I personally expect that: (1) * is a nice enough fellow, with (2) limited interest in most matters, and (3) surrounded by a gaggle of ideology-bound advisers inherited from his father's era in government (some of them demonstrably crooks). I therefore expect that negligent lack of attention by *&co is the likely explanation.

You may recall that punishment and prosecution require evidence, under the glorious English law to which we are heir. Such laws (it has been noted) are merely "spider-webs for the rich and mighty." Nobody will prosecute *&co on the theory that "they should have known but in fact were too self-satisfied and ignorant to know."

8. I don't know what the punishment is for high treason
but I do know what the punishment for having a sexual episode on the side and lying about is; impeachment. I think if you do anything that engages in treason or if you lie about matters of state, you're hailed as a great patriot, protector, and a tough on defense president.
