Did any of the media see the warnings before 9-11? I need to
respond to someone who said we ALL missed the warnings and I was trying to remember if any media sources reported any "grave and gathering" threats prior to 9-11. Thanks,Irk

1. Newsweek did a profile on OBL sometime earlier that year.
They mentioned that he was probably the world's most wanted fugitive, and had been responsible for the Cole bombing, embassy bombings, and other attacks.

But the news media didn't have access to the intelligence reports that * had. The American public wasn't told a lot of the information that Clarke and others knew about.

There was no reason for us to know that an attack was imminent. There was every reason for the president to know.

2. This is just silly...
Expecting the average Joe to be able to track down terrorist plots is ridiculous. The CIA and FBI are employed to perform those tasks. The issue is not even that Bush could have prevented 9/11 (assuming, of course, that his junta did not have foreknowledge) but, rather, that he was so consumed with Iraq (an insignificant threat) that he made no effort to counter possible terror attacks.

4. Thanks for your help.
I am just tired of people saying that we were all wrong about Iraq when some of us weren't and I was hoping to be able to cite at least one example of a media source that did try to warn us while the majority of our media was focused on Gary Condit and other types of "infotainment".

6. CBS Reported that Ashcroft Knew of Valid Threats
Based on new, credible threat assessments from the FBI, Ashcroft was instructed to stop flying commerical airlines in July 2001. CBS published this bit of news on JULY 26, 2001. Several days before the infamous Aug. 6th Presidential Briefing.

Not sure if that is what you're looking for though. Obviously, this is not a direct connection to OBL plans, but it certainly indicates that the FBI and senior members of the cabinet knew that something was being planned with commercial airlines.

8. Summer 2001 the media were pretty busy...

looking into Gary Condit's sex life. But had any warnings been published they wouldn't have done any good. We all know Georgie doesn't read the papers.
