CNN Interviews Author of "House of Bush, House of Saud"
This morning, there was a good interview on CNN with the author of the book "House of Bush, House of Saud." The author is an investigative reporter with the Boston Globe.

The author described how in the days after 9/11, when commercial airliners were grounded, 140 Saudis were permitted to fly out of the U.S. on jets - without being questioned by U.S. intelligence. Many were immediate kin to Osama Bin Laden.

The CNN interviewer asked the author: Why does the White House continue to deny that this ever happened? The author listed the sources that verified the story. (This story was also reported in Michael Moore's latest book).

The book describes the long-term political and business relationships between the Saudi Royal Family and the Bush Family.

Here's an excerpt from the main review on Amazon.com: "To trace the amazing weave of Saud-Bush connections, Unger interviewed three former directors of the CIA, top Saudi and Israeli intelligence officials, and more than one hundred other sources. His access to major players is unparalleled and often exclusive -- including executives at the Carlyle Group, the giant investment firm where the House of Bush and the House of Saud each has a major stake."

1. excellent book!
highly recommended!

How did Unger answer the question of why the White House is lying about this?

Was the CNN interviewer hostile?

2. I thought she was hostile
And typically behaving as a WH apologist. She kept asking...what are your sources...what are your sources...the WH and FBI say this didn't happen, what are your SOURCES.

At that point I was screaming at her THE SOURCE WAS THE NEW YORK FUCKING TIMES WHERE I READ THE DAMNED THING ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2001!!!!!

The guy handled himself okay though. It was a typical waste of an interview by CNN.

4. Very short - here's the transcript:

(WEATHER BREAK)

COSTELLO: We know the 9/11 Commission will zero in on that now- famous declassified memo. But will it address the Saudi question? That's what "Boston Globe" reporter Craig Unger is wondering this morning. He says he's turned up evidence that at least 140 Saudis were flown out of the United States two days after 9/11 at a time when airplanes were grounded by government order. If that's true, why? And did the president allow it?
more (not much)

7. I believe
that it was also in local papers and on local TV in the central Florida area since some of the Bin Laden family members owned homes in the Windermere area. They showed the expansive gated house on TV surrounded by guards

8. The book is great but relatively unknown
The Saudi rescue flights aside.... The real story is the $1.4 billion that flowed from the house of Saud to the house of bush over the last 30 years.... This book also supports much of what Richard Clarke has been saying recently... Too bad it was published just 6 days before Clarke did the 60 min show...... The book is now buried @ about #80 on the best seller list.

9. This is why I just cannot stand to watch CNN anymore!
There are no real journalists working for CNN anymore. they are all just talking heads.
