This Happening In Your Home Town?
This information was passed along from my work:

"For Your Information: Saturday's Dominion Post, Morgantown's newpaper, carried an announcement that Marines will be conducting urban combat drills in Morgantown and Fairmont during the first 3 weeks of May.

The entire article can be reached on the internet at the Dominion Post's website by going to the news archive and accessing the stories posted for April 10, 2004.

The article warns that helicopters, up to 1800 Marines in groups of 150-200, and other visible signs of the exercise will be apparent to residents and visitors to the downtown areas. The drills will involve raiding abandoned buildings, and residents are warned that they may hear gunshots. While most of the participants will be firing blanks, in some cases live rounds may be fired during sniper drills in what are described as "very controlled circumstances".

While this exercise does not directly involve NETL, the information is brought to your attention so that you may be prepared for traffic snarls and for what would otherwise be some seemingly alarming activities in the MGN area during that time period.

1. Urban combat drills
using LIVE ammunition? What in the world are they thinking of? I suppose it will be an entirely realistic exercise, and they'll find out what it would really take to use our own military to occupy American cities.

2. Golly, good for sightseeing too..? & baseball (bYo Apple Pie)

Bring the kids! :sarcasm:
"People in Morgantown will have an opportunity to see something that a lot of other communities would like to have."

Don't worry about the live bullets:
"Nevers said the weapons will be loaded with blanks in most instances, but a select few of the Marines will have real bullets in their guns.

..they will shoot into a bullet trap inside an abandoned building...

"In much the same way a mitt catches a baseball, Nevers said the bullet trap will catch the bullet and prevent it from ricocheting and causing damage to the surroundings."

Why do I fear this is only the beginning.. Welcome to DU, Kong.

3. I haven't heard about it near me, but...

I think in the Austin area, they had drills like this. Alex Jones talked about it alot in his video 9/11: The Road to Tyrrany. He says its an attempt to desensitize us to being under military control.

He probably has info about it on his website www.prisonplanet.com

6. Well that's one explanation
but is this a justified training exercises? I mean if we are going to have an army, aren't they going to naturally have to fight in urban areas?

4. Life in a military town...
In Norfolk, Va. the most that happens is that there's traffic when they're checking everything that goes onto the base.
... but being Navy... there is not much "landbased" activity to speak of.

Was not supposed to happen like this, we didn't mean to hit the house all those kid were having a birthday party in. Sorry, so sorry, why didn't those residents listen, we told them all to stay in their basements, didn't we?

8. No Military Bases
The closest Military base to the town is 35 miles away, and its basicall a weekend training camp for reserves, I doubt if it has 50 permanent personell. There isn't a marine base within 250 miles of here. So you have to ask, why here? Could it be that in their wildest dreams this could help gain Bush Votes in West Virginia?
