Tallahasseeans speak out on Choice of Cheney as FSU's Commencement Speaker
Tallahassee is a fairly liberal community and folks around here are not happy!

Wide right rears its ugly head at FSU once again

Once again, the spirit of wide right rears its ugly head at FSU - this time in the guise of Vice President Dick Cheney, recently chosen to speak to the graduating class of 2004. I guess Tony Soprano was otherwise engaged.

The master purveyor of secret energy policies, crony reconstruction schemes and insider power jabs seems an odd choice for commencement speaker. When most would like exhortations of "be the best you can be" and promises of fulfilling futures, FSU has chosen a man who foretells a hardscrabble world of war and lost opportunities, whose modus operandi is nothing more than "take what you can, give nothing back."

Come to think of it, there is probably no one who better represents the ethically challenged, inhumane, greed-ridden world of contemporary American politics than Dick Cheney. These are not qualities generally thought worthy of emulation.

The FSU administration really missed the ball with this misguided choice.
