I believe the press conference tonight is to provide cover
for the Ashcroft testimony and Rove knew ahead of time that it was going to be rough. (someone posted this earlier, couldn't find it to reply there)

1. I doubt it.
1) They could have done something politically less disastrous for W than holding a press conference;
2) If something big comes out of Asscroft's testimony, * will have to address it during his conference -- oterwise, it's an even bigger disaster.

3. Sure,
but isn't the whole point of this press conference for the pResident to supposedly address recent developments surrounding Iraq and the 9/11 investigation?

6. Good point!
In Richard Clarke's book, Clarke and another guy go to brief A$$KKKroft; afterward, they discuss how stupid he is and how they can't believe this guy has risen to such power.

I can't wait to see if A$$KKKroft is really as dumb as Clarke contends.

8. You'd be dumb too if all you read was the bible...
I believe this guy's entertainment and information all come from either the bible or biblical-related entertainment.

I read that he grew up in a hardcore fundamentalist christian family and takes that shit very seriously.

He seems like the type of guy who would go around singing the baptist hymn "there is power, power, wonder-working power.."

7. I posted earlier, after seeing much Ashcroft speculation...
on the board. Ashcroft (and, by association, Bush) plus terrorism and 9/11: not pretty! The lead-up to, and aftermath of, Bush's rare prime-time appearance can probably be counted on to be a bigger story than whatever revelations come from Ashcroft's testimony.

9. my gut tells me
it's not only to water down Ashcroft, but to rationalize the coming offensive in Falluja. It will be a bloodbath, and he needs to rally whats left of the flag wavers. Maybe get Toby Keith to compose a new battle song about how those 141 dead children were messin' with the good ol' U.S of A.
