2. I missed most of it.
Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 08:47 PM by sfg25
I only tuned in because my fellow DU posters were posting that bu$h was gettting stuck by some queries.

And I caught the last fifteen minutes and saw him choking up big time.

"Secretary of State Rumsfield"

Now that would have been good to see.

8. Help me here
He said he was meeting with someone and they were talking about North Korea, and he told this person (quote) if we hadn't blown WWII we wouldn't be having this conversation. (end quote) Did I hear that right? I swear I think that is what he said.

26. Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi
He was talking with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi; his implication was that if we'd been an imperialist nation after WWII, or conversely had not demanded the unconditional surrender of Japan, we'd not have a democratic Japan with which to cooperate in countering North Korea.

My immediate thought was that the decision to fight japan and demand Japan's unconditional surrender, and the decision not to make it a vassal state thereafter, were made by Democrat Presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman.

And that President Vacation is no Truman ("the buck stops here") and no Roosevelt ("we have nothing to fear but fear itself").

He said something about how some think that "brown people" aren't capable of having and maintaining free societies, but he doesn't subscribe to that view.

How noble of him. As a light brown person, I'm touched.

61. here is the quote on that
Some of the debate really centers around the fact that people don't believe Iraq can be free; that if you're Muslim, or perhaps brown-skinned, you can't be self-governing or free. I'd strongly disagree with that.

51. Here's the exchange
and at the end, he's all 'uh uh uh...let's see...' and calls on another reporter.

QUESTION: Mr. President, why are you and the vice president insisting on appearing together before the 9-11 commission? And, Mr. President, who will we be handing the Iraqi government over to on June 30th?

BUSH: We'll find that out soon. That's what Mr. Brahimi is doing. He's figuring out the nature of the entity we'll be handing sovereignty over.

And, secondly, because the 9-11 commission wants to ask us questions, that's why we're meeting. And I look forward to meeting with them and answering their questions.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE) I was asking why you're appearing together, rather than separately, which was their request.

BUSH: Because it's a good chance for both of us to answer questions that the 9-11 commission is looking forward to asking us. And I'm looking forward to answering them

54. "Even knowing what I know today about the stockpiles of weapons,"
For one brief moment the chimp dropped the charade and revealed that he knows DAMN WELL there are no WMD in Iraq.

"Even knowing what I know today about the stockpiles of weapons, I still would've called upon the world to deal with Saddam Hussein.

See, I'm of the belief that we'll find out the truth on the weapons. That's why we sent up the independent commission. I look forward to hearing the truth as to exactly where they are. They could still be there. They could be hidden, like the 50 tons of mustard gas in a turkey farm. "

I'm sure all the other nations in the world were happy to hear that.

Scared the shit out of me.

62. "my government"
several times, where he should have said my "administration" or this administration, he said my "government" or this "government". I don't think he knows the government remains the same, the administration is temporary.

65. His reference to Genoa in regard to the PDB.......
I think you could twist this enough to make it true or at least understandable, but this is some more bizarre construction. The G8 summit was in July.

BUSH: And I asked for the briefing. And the reason I did is because there had been a lot of threat intelligence from overseas. And so, I -- part of it had to do with the Genoa G-8 conference that I was going to attend. And I asked at that point in time, let's make sure we are paying attention here at home, as well. And that's what triggered the report.

It sounds on the surface as if the Summit had not occurred by August
6, but I guess sometime before or during the Summit he could have made the request. Strange way to say it, though.

66. We'll find that out soon.
when asked : "And, Mr. President, who will we be handing the Iraqi government over to on June 30th?"

BUSH: We'll find that out soon. That's what Mr. Brahimi is doing. He's figuring out the nature of the entity we'll be handing sovereignty over.

Bush didn't trust the UN to handle continued weapons inspections, but now that he's got Iraq FUBAR, he's more than willing to let the UN figure out how to clean up his mess.

He admitted PNAC! Where are all my "Kerry is PNAC-lite" people! HE ADMITTED IT!!! We went to war in Iraq in an effort to "spread democracy" by military force. He said it over and over. Not WMD. Not al qaeda. Not the poor suffering Iraqi's. BUT TO CHANGE THE WORLD.

and didn't answer any of them.

"Do you feel in any way responsible for the actions of 9/11?"

"Well, I feel sad. I feel grieved when I think about that day, and I feel moist when I wet my pants because I can't think of anything else to say that will divert attention away from my compleate lack of an answer."

74. A fell, but expected, omen:
I look forward to helping -- for the American people to hear, you know, what is the proper use of American power. Do we have an obligation to lead, or should we shirk responsibility? That's how I view this debate.

As Fineman pointed out to Tweety, this is the harbinger of 'you unpatriotic commie rat' politics down the stretch, increasingly. This is the gauntlet at Kerry's feet.

"We knew they were hiding things. A country that hides something is a country that is afraid of getting caught..."

This from the most secretive and corrupt administration...ever!

Hiding the election of 2000, our troop casualities, faked intelligence, negligence of national security, Cheney's energy task force records, Dubya's Texas papers, Gitmo Bay, Patriot Act II, Reagan's papers, environmental science reports, funding cuts for veterans, cuts in education, Condi's testimony, Dubya and Cheney's testimony, on and on and on...

BUSH: "Good evening." Good start.....he knows what time of day it is!

"The people of our country are united behind our men and women in uniform, and this government will do all that is necessary to assure the success of their historic mission" as long as it doesn't interfere with my vacation schedule.

"We will not step back from our pledge. On June 30th, Iraqi sovereignty will be placed in Iraqi hands." Hey W....tell us if the soverengn gov't of Iraq asked the US to withdrawl it's forces, would you do it?

<snip>

QUESTION: But I guess I just wonder if you feel that you have failed in any way. You don't have many of these press conferences where you engage in this kind of exchange. Have you failed in any way to really make the case to the American public?

BUSH: You know, that's, I guess, if you put it into a political context, that's the kind of thing the voters will decide next November. That's what elections are about. They'll take a look at me and my opponent and say, let's see, which one of them can better win the war on terror? Who best can see to it that Iraq emerges a free society?

<snip>

That wasn't the only time he alluded to his belief that the "war on terra" is the only concern in the upcoming election. 3 million people lost jobs, fuck 'em,we got our "war on terra" to make us popular, and so forth and so on. Guess what,Boy George, there are a LOT more issues out there concerning the American people. Kiss your ass goodbye in November!

I was actually able to sit through the whole thing, laughing all the way! I kept looking at his eyes and thinking he had had a few shots before he started. I really enjoyed his mispronounced words and made up words, he was at his intellectual best tonight! :silly:
