Man, I wish I hadn't written my column yet...because that was PRICELESS!
Holy shit, where do you start?

How about the non-answer to "why are you appearing together?" That was my favorite part. And you know why he didn't answer that question? Because there IS NO FUCKING ANSWER! At least not one that wouldn't completely humiliate and indict him.

At least it was until he got "What's the biggest mistake you've made since 9/11?" Talk about your deer in the headlights. And "I wish you'd given this question to me in advance..." Wow, who knew he would admit to this scripted-question bullshit on national TV?

And the utter refusal to take responsibility for anything...and he sounded very angry and defensive a lot of the time. And what about the "failed communicator" question? Just the question itself was enough to kill him...and his answer is that he hopes he's communicated his "conviction." I got your conviction right here, asshole...

Seriously, this man could not get through a job interview for ANYTHING. How'd he get to be President? No, wait, don't answer that question, I know.

Here's what I wanna know: I listened to the whole thing on radio. Did he look as bad as he sounded?

yeesh,

The Plaid Adder

Yes, he did. He needed a haircut, he was wearing a weird strobing tie, and he looked drunk. Absolutely pathetic.

He was doing the fake, tight faced smile. There's about eight threads on his tie alone. A couple of times he looked like he thought he might have made a funny and waited for the press corps to laugh and guess what? It didn't come. Oh and if you can, you MUST dig up a shot of Condi. Her face says it all.

12. That's exactly what I said!
When he was asked how he responded to criticism that Iraq was becoming a quagmire like Vietnam...He said that was false and then babbled about something else.

I said, "now if you were in history class in high school and said "false" you would not be allowed to continue onto another subject without saying why it is false."

He looked totally in denial of reality to me.

time on their hands to look at his vocabulary. I suspect its about the 5th grade level. He uses very basic words and can't seem to find a word for what he means a lot of the time. It is amazing to me that this seems to be the elephant in the room and the press just ignores the fact the president of the united states is verbally inept.

29. "Could not get through a job interview"--I love it!
If recut properly, the tape of that question would make a great Kerry campaign commercial. Have "Don's" question about anything The President would have done differently read by the narrator. Then let John Kerry answer and nail it. Then play Dubya's pitiful response, with all the loud still-camera shutters filling in the silence of his speechlessness.

Too bad The Donald is a Republican. Would need a Trump impersonator to finish the commercial by saying, "George W. Bush, YOU'RE FIRED"!

30. Un-fucking-believable!
I missed it, so I'm reading the transcript...what a fucking idiot!

"And the answer is that had I had any inkling whatsoever that the people were going to fly airplanes into buildings, we would have moved heaven and earth to save the country, just like we're working hard to prevent a further attack. "
So, Chimpy, you thought since it was an ordinary hijacking, you could sit with your thumb up your ass?

I keep wondering, when you're trying to prevent a hijacking, what the hell difference does it make WHY the hijackers want to hijack the plane?

Some other points...he didn't know that the "70 investigations" was wrong until TODAY?

And I loved the "We're anwering together because it's a good chance to answer together" statement.

By the way, who but a hand ful of right wing loonies ever said there should have been a pre-emptive bombing of Afghanistan?

34. Worst Presidential Press Conference Performance I've Ever Seen.
Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 10:52 PM by Ziggy_0253
I only listened to it on TV until I realized he was making such a botch of it. It was the stumbling, pausing, and the absolutely petrified tone in his voice, like that of a 12 year boy old trying to recite his lines in the school play on stage in front of strangers and blowing it, that caught my attention. I started to watch then, and the one about his worst decision was priceless.

The look on his face said it all at that point. He started to say something, you could see, but he pursed his lips and exhaled, getting puffy cheeks and looked like he had to pinch it off to keep from blurting out the truth of the matter, which is that he knew all along what was up and let it happen, or that he realizes what a mistake he made in ignoring all the warnings.

Either way he's screwed. I hope a still photo of that moment makes it onto the net.

37. Radio? Are you kidding? You missed the best part!
I don't know the name of the reporter who asked him this but you will see references throughout all the threads about "maybe I need to be a better communicator."

The reporter mentioned Bush's slide in the polls, and when he said "you seem to say the same thing in every one of your press conferences" Dubya's head snapped to one side like a dog catchin' a whiff of some fresh Liv-A-Snaps. He kept making faces at the reporter as the questioning continued and (I believe) the camera DELIBERATELY avoided a close-up. After a few minutes of this snappy banter and Bush looking like he wanted to flee the room, he relented with the "hurt inner child" response of "maybe I need to be a better communicator."

He also had a pretty interesting look on his face when he made the crack about wishing he'd received the written question in advance so he could think about it.

I think one of the main areas in which this extremely well-planned conference went to hell in a handbasket was the common theme that most of the press corps managed to sneak in, in one variant or another: "At what point, Mr. President, AFTER 9-11, did you realize that you made a mistake? What was your biggest mistake? Have you learned any lessons? Do you feel that you owe the American people an apology?" And the killer, "you never admit your mistakes." With that single question, David Gregory will be checking the foot of his bed tomorrow for a horse's head, guaranteed.

Me, I gave up an hour or so of my life watching a horse's ASS.

He kept leaning on what a wonderful thing it would be to give the Iraqui people the democracy which they so justly deserve while the reporters asked him about casualties, additional troops, increasing anti-American sentiments and violence, and the very real possibility that his reward for going against the wishes of the nation he is purporting to lead may very well be a frigging pink slip.

You shoulda seen his blinkin' little beady eyes when he said "I'm not going to lose my job."

Trust me, you're gonna want a tape of this one. It's one for the time capsule, along with Nixon's "I'm not a crook."

Seriously, don't you WANT to see his face when he was asked point-blank if he'd gotten us into another Vietnam?????

:-)

46. A poem just for you, nostamj, in honor of the occasion
I wrote this the LAST time Bush gave a prime time press conference...

*Our President Gives a Press Conference, March 6, 2003*

I. LISTENING IN ON THE DRIVE HOME
Down a tunnel
carved through solid darkness
I am shooting
at seventy miles per hour
in a straight line
and every question
has the same
answer.

II. MESSAGE FROM THE WOMAN WHO SHOULD BE MY MOTHER-IN-LAW

Hello girls,
Mom here
We just listened to the President--
it was awful--
we just wanted to know
when you girls are leaving
I hope you will both
have a good rest
and enjoy
your vacation.

III. NO, I'M NOT A POET, I'M JUST...INSPIRED

I wonder why
all of a sudden now
I am writing poetry
all the time

I know the answer:
because rational discourse
is dead

IV. IT COULD HAPPEN

He has called on
that reporter
planted to ask him
how his faith is guiding him.

She stands,
and begins to tremble,
and from her mouth comes forth
a voice
that cannot be hers.

Her eyes stare,
and in tones that
shake the columns,
the voice says:

Good evening,
Mr. President,
I am the goddess
of language.

You have violated
everything I am
repeatedly
deliberately
brazenly
for two long years

I will no longer
suffer the stench
of your corrupted breath
I will no longer
remain captive
in the foetor
of your mouth.

These are the words
You will lose first:

peace
freedom
democracy
faith
God
prayer
innocent life
everything possible
true.

Every word
you blaspheme against
will leave you,
until finally
you will open your mouth
only in silence.

I did not want this.
I warned you.
You would not disarm;
And so I am
disarming you.
****************
November will be here before you know it,

The Plaid Adder
