Bushspeak tonight: Hiding means your afraid of getting caught
"We knew they were hiding things. A country that hides something is a country that is afraid of getting caught, and that was part of our calculation."

Pot meet your Black self.

4. And...
A White House that hides something is a White House that is afraid of getting caught.
And...
A Vice President that hides something is a Vice President that is afraid of getting caught.
And...
A Bush* that hides something is a Bush* that is afraid of getting caught.
And...

"The hardest part of my job is consoling family members who lost their lives."

10. You didn't mishear
It was incredibly difficult to listen to him try to speak about his compassion for and consolation of all of the people who have lost their loved ones on his watch. Very awkward.

11. According to the transcript, it was LESS coherent than that!
I believe the moment you remember came right after he 'came to life' in response to a question touching on re-election.

Remember that? Before that moment, he had been speaking in a flat monotone, like a scared Boy Scout. Then:

"Let's see here. Judy?

QUESTION: Thank you, Mr. President.

Sir, you've made it very clear tonight that you're committed to continuing the mission in Iraq, yet, as Terry pointed out, increasing numbers of Americans have qualms about it. And this is an election year.

President Bush: Yes.

QUESTION: Will it have been worth it, even if you lose your job because of it?

President Bush: I don't plan on losing my job. I plan on telling the American people that I've got a plan to win the war on terror. And I believe they'll stay with me. They understand the stakes.

Look, nobody likes to see dead people on their television screens. I don't. It's a tough time for the American people to see that. It's gut-wrenching.

One of my hardest parts of my job is to console the family members, who've lost their life...."

6. He scrambled
on that one too! Did you see him looking down and fumbling with the podium? I swear I could feel the tension sitting in my own living room.

8. I only wish there could have been a follow-up question
If you knew Sadaam was guilty because he was hiding things, should we believe this Administration is GUILTY because you hide EVERYTHING!!!
