Human Rights Watch: Probe Needed Into US Action in Falluja
by Luke Baker

BAGHDAD - A U.S. military offensive in Falluja last week in which 600 Iraqis may have died has raised concerns about excessive use of force and needs immediate investigation, a leading human rights group said Tuesday.

Civilians who fled the fighting described the streets of Falluja as being littered with bodies, including women and children, and Iraqi politicians have accused U.S. forces of meting out collective punishment on the city's residents.

"The questions being asked are very legitimate. When you cordon off a town and hear many stories that are very worrisome about civilians being killed it needs to be examined," said Hania Mufti, a senior researcher for Human Rights Watch, a New York-based rights group.

"There is enough from the footage we've seen and from what has been said about what went on in Falluja to warrant a very serious investigation. We are deeply concerned about the consistent reports we are getting about women, children and unarmed civilians being killed," Mufti told Reuters.

2. The 'hard core clerics' live there...it's their country!
They are only 'hard core' because they want the US out of their country.
Maybe we should also have an investigation of Pat Robertson and other 'hard core clerics' over here?

5. Whateverfor?
Would you not agree that an investigation of the traitors in our midst, such a Bush-loving Republican voters, sould be more appropriate?

We are, after all, talking about almost 700-- American dead soldiers.

Whoops. Sorry me. I keep forgetting they're only worth $80 dollars a day. Sorry.... I won't let my democratic values get in the way again.

:spank:

Let's investigate the clerics; they planted the WNBs.

7. Human Rights Watch cared about Saddam's atrocities long before
right-wingers suddenly and conveniently discovered they cared about them. Human Rights Watch calls it as they see it and has criticized abusers of human rights all over the world. The right has zero credibility on humanitarian issues.

10. last night during the press conference
Bush stated that the U.S. is an occupying power. He then went on to say that, the Iraqis do not want to be occupied and he, himself, would not want to either.

Bush called al-Sadir and his supporters an 'illegal militia'.
By whose authority/laws have they been deemed so,
The occupying power?-- think about it!

8. 26 is the number of Human Rights workers
the U.S. has 'employed' in Iraq. Compare that number to the number of 'weapons' inspectors, mercenaries, corps/contractors etc etc, and a clear view of Bush*'s priorities emerges.

11. that is so pitiful
there's no way around it, the only tool in Bush's box for Iraq is violence. "Resolve" my ass, a better description would be intransigent mean spirited, pig headed evil.
