Election Startegy
When I was in college (1982-1989), I had a female friend whose grandfather was friends with Ronald Reagan (she was a Reagan supporter). She told me a thing about the Reagan response strategy which I found compelling -- she attributed this strategy to the then-newly elected French President Mitterand, in his earlier years. This strategy was the origin of liberals are whiners strategy. The strategy works this way, You say something that most people wouldn't think twice about, but you know will probably infuriate the opposition. Then when they complain, you blow it off and let it go, knowing full-well they'll bring it up. Then you respond by saying, "It's a dead issue." The opposition complains somemore and finally you respond by saying something like, "O.K. I didn't think it was that big a deal, but since the opposition insists on making this non-issue an issue I'll address it..." Example, then VP George Bush's comment after the VP debate when he said, "We kicked ass." The Ferraro camp complained that it was inappropriate. The Republicans said, "Look, it's an old expression. We didn't say we kicker her ass." The Democrats complained some more and on it went, with the Democrats looking like whiners. Because to most Americans, me included, the comment was not that big a deal. And it appeared like the Ferraro people were whining.
I think Kerry should have adopted this posture on the Bible quote. The pukes aren't dropping it. So go out and make it sound like they're whiners. Let's hit them back.
What do you think?
I Report You Decide.
