I have asked this question before and gotten nothing.

I know we can't go back in time, but I am curious as to how this administration would be

1. We'll still be bankrupt and at war with Iraq.
He would simply have trumped up a different excuse.

3. but would he
have the support that he got right after 9/11?

I am not so sure.

He didn't "come into his own" until after the attack.

Had that not happened, he probably would have been roasted by the press long before

24. Exactamundo
Read the Path to War in Vanity Fair:

"We don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud" Both spoken by Rice (Bushlicker number 1) and Cheney (Bushstuffer number 2) regarding Iraq. They could lie their way into anything they wanted.

They didn't need 9/11 but damn it sure made it easy!! (Trifecta anyone?)

4. Impeached, by a Democratic dominated house and senate
The economic outlook would still be the same (tax cuts for the rich, corporate fraud, rich get richer, etc).

9. so true
but I think he would be much hated by now, the only thing that has endered him to most of the public is his "actions" since 9/11. It doesn't matter that he is a puppet and his actions on that day prove he is the biggest coward on the face of the earth

6. He would have found another excuse to invade Iraq
so we would have that controversy.
if no 9-11, perhaps more attention would be paid to one of my sources of rage and astonishment: Bush's despoiling of the environment. I think it should be a major campaign issue. On EVERY front, he has weakened standards, let major polluters off the hook, delayed standards etc.
He is a terrible president in so, so many ways.

We would still be fighting Iraq, just for some other BS reason.

10. There probably would be less blind patriotism
Which would be a very good thing. I wonder if Bush* would have invaded Iraq anyway... probably.

I don't think resorting to childish tactics will help any of us in the long run.

17. BAD: Bush* has a downward slope, punctuated only by upward spikes
Edited on Wed Apr-14-04 08:54 AM by gbwarming
Look. There's none of the usual up and down, smooth sweepy trending for GWB* - just a constant downward slide lifted only when people die.

Check out these charts to compare * to actual presidents

Edit: Note that each spike is lower. I think the poeple are fatigued. The spikes are from 9/11, Iraq war, Saddam capture, (and the last, tiny one?). This leads me to think OBL capture will be a complete dud - especially since we KNOW that it won't mean the end of the war on terror.

18. Probably not impeached
More than likely polling in the low twenties. Probable Democratic majority in Senate, possible majority in house.

At least half of his support is 'patriotism' - that tendency to rally round the leader when we're at war.

I don't see how he could have gotten us into Iraq without 9/11. The lies wouldn't have been enough without the recent searing memory of the attacks.

He would have faced a half dozen contenders in the primaries, and McCain would probably be winning the nomination.

19. I believed he would
be below 30% in job approval ratings, which is where I predicted he'd be by December 2001 (but that prediction was made pre-9/11). But I think I gave a little too much credit to some of his followers - I thought they'd be smarter. So I guess I might revise that up to 30 to 40% approval.

* would serve no purpose if it wern't for 9/11. The military was already disillusioned with him over the "Restructuring". His whole base would have left him by now.
