Nightline
Did you happen to see Nightline tonight?

It was an amazing sight. Koppel ripped Bush
a new one.

3. Koppel opened by talking about Bush&Cheney together for 911 panel!!!
I've had the tv on all night, and this is the FIRST mention of this travesty by mainstream media.

7. I'm watching now....
Edited on Wed Apr-14-04 01:47 AM by Blasphemer
They are showing clips of his old press conferences - mentioning the flub during the infamous scripted one - to highlight the changing rationale for the war in Iraq. Only consistent in saying that we will "stay the course".

Koppel's opening: "Pres. Bush doesn't do these news conferences often and after tonight it's likely he won't be doing another one anytime soon.. Questions were tough but none that they shouldn't have anticipated but he repeatedly seemed off guard... flustered..." Brought up horrible response to "biggest mistake after 9/11" question and lack of an answer for his joint appearance with Dick Cheney before the 9/11 commission.

10. I missed that part.........
Koppel's opening: "Pres. Bush doesn't do these news conferences often and after tonight it's likely he won't be doing another one anytime soon..

Was he hinting that the networks wouldn't be providing the time slots in the future or that Bush failed so miserably that he will avoid being alone in front of the press and the world again?

13. Definitely about his poor performance....
Basically, that he's so inept even though his staff should have been well prepared that it's hard to imagine him agreeing to do another one of these.

I can't believe the GOP hasn't arranged a "little accident" for Georgie by now. They know they are riding a lame horse in this race.

4. He interviewed some journalists who basically said that Bush
Edited on Wed Apr-14-04 01:47 AM by Dover
was talking through the reporters to the people, and only wanted to get out the message that he is "staying the course". Ted said that networks are not so generous with the time they allow for such announcements and speeches, but that they have been willing to offer time provided they get to ask questions. He was making the point that the networks had been used by the Bushies to spread their propaganda and didn't bother to substantively answer ANY questions.

This is an even better assessment of Bush's speech than Nightlines:

A Prime Time to Ask The President Questions

By Tom Shales
Wednesday, April 14, 2004; Page C01

"When I say something, I mean it," George W. Bush said decisively near the end of last night's prime-time presidential news conference. Nobody called out, "When will you say something?" -- the White House press corps is too mannerly for that -- but some reporters, and some viewers, must have been thinking it.

One network reporter predicted accurately beforehand that Bush would vow to "stay the course" in Iraq -- reviving one of the most inescapable clichés of daddy Bush's years in office. What the people of the United States as well as the people of Iraq want to hear, the reporter said, is what "the course" is. Bush said he would stick to the June 30 deadline for handing the government over to Iraqis but also said the U.S. military presence there would continue after that date..cont'd

5. Under Pressure
The title, I guess, was The President
"Under Pressure".

OK, don't hold me to too high a standard. I am sure
this will not be 100% accurate.

He talked a lot about how Bush didn't/wouldn't answer questions.

Talked about the handover of the government of Iraq and how
that now depends upon what the UN decides. Pointed out that
this is a flip flop on this Administration's view of the UN.

Complaints about the 18 minute speech - and following that
there were only 10 or 12 questions.

Talked about how Bush's rationale for war has "shifted".

There was a really good bit, I think it was Ellen Goodman,
about Bush's statement that the troops must stay to
"finish the work of the fallen". Durn, I wish I could remember
it better, maybe there will be a transcript tomorrow.

8. IF TRUE GIVE SOME DETAILS
If this is true give us some details please. You are lucky or hit on a good one if what you say is true. If it`s not true why are you saying it? Many want to hear about it if true. Please follow up on your posting. ...Oscar

12. Goodman said that Bush's argument is that we must now stay the
course and support the war because we owe it to those who have lost their lives for the cause of freedom and Iraq's liberation. She said what Bush refuses to admit that had we done things differently to begin with we would have served our troops and our cause better.

.......or something like that.

16. Thank you. Shrubs on his way out of a job.
This is big on top of big. The Shrub Admin. is on the deffensive all the time. Their deriliction of duty regarding the attacks on the U.S. are becoming a very clear record of such and it is unforgivable. The shrub is going down. It is worth mentioning that publications such as THE ARMY TIMES and the DAV are becoming increasingly critical of the shrub as well they should be. This family has a long history of treasonous activity. For those interested in what the Shrub Family was doing to help Hitler go to < www.tarpley.net >. Check out chapter 2 of GB the unauthorized BIO. IT is an eye opener to say the least and well documented, that is why it has been there for as long as it has.Check it out. ...Oscar
