The U.S. media all refer to any Iraqi opposition to the U.S. as "insurgents".
Webster defines insurgent as "a person who revolts against civil authority or an established government" Are the Iraqis who are fighting the American occupation revolting against a legitimate civil authority or an established government?
I believe that the term "insurgent" is an attempt to further marginalize any Iraqi opposition to U.S. occupation.
They are fighting a foreign attack and occupation, and trying to defend their country. Were we to do the same what would we be called? Terrorists? Insurgents? Thugs? Killers?
