A glimmer of hope last night when the media got some BACKBONE for a brief
moment. They finally summoned up the courage to ask tough questions. (which Bush didn't answer, of course), and then his overbearing bullying cowed them into submission again, and so they promptly went on air on their respective networks and praised his performance...The light was extinguished and it was back to the darkness.....It can only be described as shameful.

1. There are some good journalists
Not many, but some. The problem is that they ask tough questions, and they get really damning answers or non-answers from Bush, but the editors won't print the stories. After a while, journalists learn to edit the story before they submit them, adapting to what the editors want to read, which is cheerleading for Bush

Tough questions at a press conference most people don't watch don't matter/ How they are reported the next morning is all that matters. And you've seen how they are reported.

Of course, then there are the Cece Connallys, the Kathleen Seelyes, the Candy Crowley's...

2. Amen to that!
Nightline had a bit of an edge to it though, and I've read a few headlines today that mentioned the bumbling, miserable performance. But maybe that's just my sources talking... :hippie:

4. I loved the fact...
...that the last question was about whether Bush had failed as a communicator. It was great that the reporter actually mentioned the fact that Bush has a few phrases that he uses over and over again. For as little as we got out of the press conference (aside from further proof that Bush is an empty suit) that was a nice ending.
