A question about Bush's speech ??
I was out of town and caught just a minute on a news channel - something about it being "unthinkable" to pull out of Iraq now?? Does anyone have the exact quote?

The reason I ask is that if it is "unthinkable" now, shouldn't he have thought of that scenario before the invasion??

1. Don't recall the "unthinkable" quote, but the New York Times has
the transcript on their web page.

3. Thanks ! I found it.
"Yet in this conflict there is no safe alternative to resolute action. The consequences of failure in Iraq would be unthinkable. Every friend of America in Iraq would be betrayed to prison and murder as a new tyranny arose. Every enemy of America in the world would celebrate, proclaiming our weakness and decadence, and using that victory to recruit a new generation of killers."

"The consequences of failure in Iraq would be unthinkable"?????

Does that mean the same as being painted into a corner? A little late to think of the consequences now, don't you think?

4. Yeah, he's painted us into this corner. I doubt if any objective
"success" will come of any of this, for us, the Iraqis or Busboy's "Greater Middle East".
