MRS BUSH ON NPR
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 06:55 AM by shockingelk
Ok, this is really strange ... the anti-environment president's wife being interviewed on NPR. There are birdcall recordings playing behind the recorded dialog.
scream
scream
scream

Americans are maybe happy watching their TVs, but they know this is BS.

edit: this is freaky ... can anybody tell me what I should feel like if I'm having an out of body experience? Really, there was forestry, bird chirpy sounds throughout ...

3. But..but....she's a naturalist -
they planted buffalo grass and as you can see the bluebonnets are making a show of it right now! :puke:

It's sad really; I think this woman goes through life heavily medicated.

22. Are they the same birds you heard at Ft. Hood
when Bush came out of Church on Easter?

Those are Grackles - - very common in Texas. They're crow-like birds that are kind of a nuisance here.

I was a little surprised that nobody made jokes about them or their name. :)

I would much rather have woken up to another day of gunfire in Falluja. At least that's real.

I'm glad Laura is crazy about native grasses and getting rid of dustbowl syndrome in west Texas. But listening to her talk, it's not connected to anything.

They go to Crawford, they go to La La Land.

32. Nat'l Petroleum Radio sucks. But this was a guerilla move. Clever, wink
wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?

Since it has been determined that Bush* spends most of his time in la-la land, NPR did what at first seems to be a Readers Digest First Lady moment for the Repub kool-aid drinkers but is also an expose of dettachment and distancing to the informed and outraged others of us.

Very clever eye-of-the-beholder programming. See what you want to see.

I heard this pap and wondered WTF? All the chirping birds and details on the types of grass, couldn't be more mundane, right?

Then the interviewer, having gained Pickles confidence, asks "I hope you don't think this is an innapropriate question...but do you ever feel guilty out here with all that's going on elsewhere around the world?"

And Pickles makes generic 'Isn't the world a tough place but this gives me hope that there are still beautiful places like this' sounds in response. Yet another press inquiry for a mea culpa.

This was guerilla theater showing how tranquil and removed from the world of hurt that her husband is responsible for the nice nice lady is out in her garden.

5. another NPR "reverse driveway moment"
NPR always brags about their driveway moment stories, stories so compelling that you sit in your car in your driveway when you get home to listen to the finish. Well, the new NPR staff have excelled in "reverse driveway moments", stories so biased or poorly written that I have turn the radio off just because I cannot stand to listen to it any more.

The coverage of the lead up to the war in Iraq was the prime example of a reverse driveway moment.

9. I'm afraid i'm gonna bust the "OFF" switch...
Edited on Thu Apr-15-04 08:55 AM by BiggJawn
Because I hit it SO hard in disgust.

Look, even a busted clock is right twice a day, so don't lecture me about all the "GREAT stuff" on NPR. If I want to listen to blatant Shrub-sucking on the radio, there are PLENTY of AM outlets for Gush Pfleghmball and all those wanna-bees.

OK, so I have had "NPR Driveway Moments", but lately, they involve me staring at the radio going "what the fuck are they TALKING about????"

Thank goodness I learned how to get Shortwave in my truck....

13. this was the first time I listened to NPR in two weeks
since Air America has been on, there has been no need for NPR.

This thing sounded like a parody of NPR. The "reporter"'s over-the-top, breathless descriptions of the birds and flowers were laughable, and they went on forever. I once went camping with someone who insisted on reacting this way to nature, and that person is lucky not to have been murdered by me.

Please, please, Air America, get back on the air here in Chicago!

14. When she said they lived on a "cattle ranch"
I started screaming at the radio "It's fucking pig ranch, you stupid b|t(h!!!"

That's really the first time I've heard her say anything, as I usually try to tune her out.

Maybe it was the southern drawl, but Pickles didn't exactly sound like an intelligent woman, if you ask me.

15. my email to morningedition@npr.org
When I heard Ketzel Levine rhapsodizing over "a contemporary, lean and low-slung building, made of glass and honey-colored stone. All around it, where standing, wind bends the buffalo grass, and reckless spills of wildflowers puddle along the ground," I thought she was reading from a bad romance novel. That early in the morning it made my stomach churn. Then it became clear that she was talking about the Bush's Crawford pig farm and I became even more queasy.

I recently read the online chat with NPR's senior vice president for programming, Jay Kernis. One of the individuals he specifically mentioned as a wonderful new hire to the NPR team was none other than Ketzel Levine. I certainly hope that the changes to Morning Edition being baked up by Mr. Kernis do not include more insipid, propagandizing tripe like that offered by Ms. Levine this morning. That story was a shameless attempt to humanize the current occupant of the Western Whitehouse by linking him with his "naturalist" wife.

In short, if stories like that are what I can expect from the new voices of Morning Edition, I will have to find something else to listen to when I awaken. I can not begin every day sick to my stomach.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH NPR WHERE THEY ARE PUTTING UP WITH THIS KIND OF PROPAGANDA.

"Where she finds solice..." Give me a fucking break. How about the 40 million and in Iraq and the 200,000 her hubby sent to "liberate" them...where are THEY "finding solice"

If he would have found a little less solace and gone to the fucking OFFICE once in awhile and maybe READ SOME "HISTORICAL" SHIT ON HIS DESK....well....you know.

Anything tolerable they might broadcast is no excuse for their actual mission. It is simply COVER! They want to control both sides of "the debate" Did somebody mention MK-ULTRA? Use the off switch, for your own sake.

21. Jaw-dropping events
We've all experienced our share. The one I remember best was the day i was watching Clinton on TV. He had met with Sharon the previous day and had just left the stage from a press conference with Arafat. The camera cuts to an interview with Robert Macneil and my ears perk as he asks Clinton "Do you realize how serious a matter this is." I thought: what an odd question - of course he realizes how serious it is - why else would he have both leaders in Washington in a further attempt to broker a peace -strange. Then i heard the fateful words "Monica Lewinsky". My jaw was on the floor, my face burned red and anger surged through me like a jolt of electricity. I couldn't believe my ears "Why are they asking him about something like that?" I heard the 'that woman" remark and alarm bells were going off in my head. My first thought was: What about national security? Don't they care?

But from that day I've not contributed a dime to NPR or PBS. Before i belonged to two public radio stations and two public tv stations. Now I have nothing but contempt for them. Don't waste your money. If you want to support public radio contribute to Pacifica or Air America - anybody but NPR.

24/7 whorporate media newsertainment irrelevant. More and more the internet is the primary news source for people. They read the a news item on the net being that is being reported on but the reported facts R shady or ignored. People R trusting the net Bcuz they can access news from all over the world.

26. Pickles is a tremendously dull news item.
I like NPR for science Friday, but that's it. Their news and current events reporting is so sleepy, I can't stand it. It's almost as bad as my local nightly TV news.

Honestly, who cares what Pickles has to say? She's a political zero. The news equivalent of paint drying. Can't NPR find anything newsworthy or otherwise interesting?

The ONLY reason this story was staged was to "humanize" the * administration. Obviously NPR got their orders and dutifully carried them out. :puke:

ZZZZZzzzzzzz.......

29. and HOW much did mrs. kroc give them?
what are they begging for all the time?

I occasionally listen to Odyssey in Chicago (allegedly highbrow chatshow), with their fasttalking narcissist Gretchen Helfrin (sp?)

last week they had on two "experts," one a former Bush campaign PR guy, now a political science "professor" at UT Austin, the other a former Clinton NSC staffer.

it was a pathetic display, with the pug saying the most outrageous crap about Clarke and other dems (wish I could remember details), and the Clinton guy CLEARLY had an axe to grind w/Clarke for some reason, badly distorting his testimony, as well certain points in book (disagreeing, for example, that the Iraq invasion HURT the WOT!)

anyway, I called and called and called to no avail; got in right after the show was over, and talked to the host, of all people.

I said it was VERY disingeuous of her to have two people from the same side of the street on, and that only the three excellent callers provided some needed balance. I ranted for awhile on the need for some differentiated POVs on a station like theirs; said I was disappointed in hearing all the UofC neocons and Federalist Society voices so often, and asked what was the deal.

she chirped, brightly, "thanks for your input!" like some brainless goof, let it hang there, clearly not willing to say anything else in defense of the show, station, etc.

So I told her, if that's all she had to say, that I was going to rescind my donation from their latest annoyathon, which had just ended.

didn't really donate, as I agree with above posters that NPR is a big joke, run by an ex CIA drone.
