You know the RW smear machine will rev up full force. Scaife and Co. started on Clinton before his first day in office and did their best to undermine his presidency for eight, well they havn't stopped. We on the left can protest, editorialize and chat all over the net against the current administration, but those guys, they got the power. Special prosecuters, senate investigations, Paula and Linda, Arkansas project, will it start all over again in another shape and form?

1. Better hope he never had oral sex, or they'll be pushing for Gitmo time
They'll have a bimbo parade for sure, and probably have transcripts of phone sex with Jane Fonda.

2. His Impeachment is already in the works!
All they need now is some lame excuse to start the Impeachment.

3. They will trash him (as usual)
BUT the difference here is that he has been taking it from the new-cons for years and is galvanized to it. (I think salon.com did a great article on this last week.) This was one of the factors in the whole 'electability' run up before Iowa.

He is a big boy and perhaps is just the one who can shut down some of their hate mills.

5. i don't want to sound morbid...
...or like a conspiracy theorist, but i've had a fear that when Kerry gets elected, they will try to take him out....I'd like to think that in this day and age...but then JFK wasn't that long ago...Hope I'm wrong though.

7. I don't even wanna think about it.
If Kerry wins the Presidency, but the Democrats fail to take at least one house of Congress, the Republicans WILL find a way to impeach him.

Impeachment is going the way of the filibuster- another parliamentary mechanism intended for use in dire circumstances, but now readily abused to inflict political damage on enemies. The Republicans so lowered the threshold for what behavior warrants impeachment, that it's going to become just another political weapon to fling at the executive in office.

That's why I wonder: if you had your choice between Kerry winning the Presidency and the Democrats winning back the House and Senate, which would you choose?

10. Normally
I would rather have a Democratic majority in the House and Senate because I think more of the liberal agenda would be voted on. However we are under special circumstances now. Our people are in physical danger because of the incompetence and malice of the Bush administration. We need a new President now.

8. If
he ever looked at another woman while married, took a loan from anyone not an angel, or made an off-color remark in the last twenty years Drudge will post it within 10 minutes of it hitting the rumor mill. That goes for now. I think we need a war hero because I'm afraid this is war.

9. They will jihad everyone in his administration!
We need to be prepared for constant attacks on Kerry's "inability" to choose the "best of the best with honors, Sir."

This will be the only way for FAUX to stir up crap and cause Joe Sixpack to question JK's competency.

The Hunting of the President by Joe Conason and Gene Lyons and The Clinton Wars by Sidney Blumenthal. Because it will start all again.

22. but isn't he used to that?
Hasn't Kerry's entire political life been haunted by 'pugs? Every time he's run for an office the Hanoi Jane thing comes up.

The people I work with are seriously disenfranchised with * but they are dead set against Kerry because of the Hanoi Jane nonsense. I bring Kerry up to see what they feel about him from time to time and they get all McCarthy-like and start yapping about pinko commies every time. I could set my watch by it.

I think Kerry will be fine, he as a touch of the teflon-don in him, much like Clinton. He's used to being under fire for wacky non-sequitors to his positions before, and he will again. I don't believe that kind of witch-hunt will drop Kerry as it failed to drop the Clintons.

12. I didn't think so at first
but now that I know more about Kerry and his history - I think he'll be up for the challenge. We know and so does he that they'll do their best to smear him and block him at every turn (Congress) but I'm not worried. Kerry is exactly who we need in the White House.

13. they will be too busy cleaning up after shrubs mess
and prosecuting Cheney, Rove, and crew. There is enough scandal and crimes to keep them busy for years. After reading John Dean's book, I am convinced the lid will blow soon. It will be the outing Wilson's wife that will bring them down. They be on the defensive so much, that there will be no energy left to pick on Kerry.

14. they'll blame him for whatever happens in Iraq, of course
I actually wonder if it wouldn't be more just for Bush to have to face the consequences of his gigantic screw-ups for another four years. Iraq, the economy, the environment, the whole shot. The magnitude of these disasters will become apparent over the next four years. If Kerry is president, the GOP will try to stick him with the blame. This tactic is reprehensible, but it's usually at least partially effective.

But if Bush gets another four years, he would at least have to face the music. There would be no democrats to pin the blame on. I think the Clinton card is pretty much played out even among the GOP faithful.

18. Which media? The one proclaiming Air America bounced checks?
Are still people not figuring this out?
The Arkansas Project has been very busy all during the primaries - as Clarkies noticed all too well - and some DU-ers unwittingly joined in the fun.
Once they stirred the nomination the way they wanted, they can now concentrate on one person only - and do it nice and early. (kerry was the beneficiary of it early 2003 - but briefly abandoned for a juicier target)

17. It won't be pretty...a plea to all
We need to start a "stop the hate" campaign, right now to counter what is surely to come.
Those who spew hatred should be called out for what they are mean-spirited and evil. Folks like Rush, O'Reilly, etc. and their followers are the only a miniscule, if at all, less destructive than wacko groups like the KKK. It is time to bring pressure to bear on them. It is not socially acceptable (at least in civilized places) to be a member of the KKK. Neither should it be to be a fan of Limbaugh, et al. These sheepish followers are emboldened by claiming allegiance to these hate-filled radio-talkers. It is mob mentality at work.
With the huge number of members in DU, we could do a lot toward changing the tone of the country. For the sake of President Kerry, let us try.
Having said all that, would the leaders and organizers among us, please take one giant step forward. I will gladly be first in line to help. :bounce:
