The AirAm CEO Is Kind Of A Jerk IMO!!
It's true that they do have more than enough start-up money....so when he caught the slimeball from MultiCultural Radio double-dipping for the signal, why didn't he just file papers, why did he have to go and stop payment. GRRRR!!!

Sorry for this outburst but I'm just totally jonzing for AirAm...I didn't realize how hooked I had gotten on it, I can't listen on the computer for any length of time, I always have to leave right in the middle of a converation, it's frustrating. Double grrrr!

1. I dont see any evidence he acted foolishly.
Even with thier money it isnt worth getting ripped off just to stay on the air.

18. But Surely They Will Lose More Than That From Sponsors...
Wouldn't they have to adjust the rate they are charging for the days they are without their 2nd & 3rd biggest markets?

It was a bonehead move IMO....they shoulda just sued the guy for reimbursement.

2. I'm a little curious about that business decision as well
I mean, what if Liu decides he doesn't want to renew the contract because of bad blood? I hope they have a plan B in place for Chicago & LA if that happens.

3. Do you think they set Liu up. . ..
. . .if Liu is at fault, Air America could end up owning these stations.

14. That's an interesting speculation, wndy
Of course, if Liu was double-dipping, he has no-one to blame but himself.

4. Bookkeeping style decision, not a good PR, I guess
His bookkeeping instincts would be to immediately minimize the money loss. But it has turned out to be a bad decision. Off-air time means sponsors will be hesitant to sign.

One wonders, though. Liu may have shut him down for filing papers, too. When children squable, rational solutions are rare.

5. SO the right choice was to let Liu rip them off indefinately?
I dont understand where you think an error was made.

9. No it was to file papers
and to pay the money in escrow. Stop payments are self help that is not legal.

11. and the proper solution
was to take them to court with clean hands. Stop payments are almost always looked upon as not being clean hands. This is admittedly a close call assuming Air America is correct on the facts. But, it is indisputable that their legal position would have been stronger had they gone to the court first, and then dealt with the money.

13. Air America is off the air in two of its three largest markets. THAT's
where the error was made. They are loosing more money than they will save.

Do it by the book. First, file an injunction against Liu so he can't pull the plug. Then sue him, file charges, and get him to pay you back. If he can't, you get a court order siezing his assets. Then you own his stations, and you don't have down time.

Instead, someone got all personal about it, called Liu out, and he took his ball and went home. They may get the ball back, but meanwhile the game is stopped.

You think being off the air is better than being on the air and having some pocket change in limbo? Why?

21. WPB only carries Randi.
That's her old home station - which carries Beck, Rush, etc. The usual Clear Channel suspects.

And it's a special deal - as Franken mentioned to Boortz earlier, AAR is not syndicating individual programs.

7. stopping payment puts into court
"immediately" .the 950 station in chicago is the only signal that reaches 100 miles into northern il. it`s just up the dial from 890 am rightwing radio,so it`s the best possible signal. i hope this get`s fixed soon,i miss it out here in the cornfields. i do wish there was local content -nancy and ski would be nice instead of 890`s "thing" on sunday afternoons

12. they're just playing hardball.
I have the same "fuck me? fuck you!" type attitude.

they were getting dicked around by liu, so they dicked him back.

i think in the long run station owners will see that they can't screw with air america, because air american screws back.

16. evidently
AA had to pay, in advance for a couple months of air time which they didn't use. Then Liu had another person pay for the very same air time.

17. So AA Had Already Budgeted That Money Before They Found Out
So they should have just sued for reimbursement. That would seem to be an open and shut case IF they are SURE the guy really was paid for the months AA leased the space without using it.

19. Why should they pay for air time that was sold
to another entity?

I not only would have stopped payment and started the court process, I would have dedicated an entire days airtime to thrashing them.

What utter garbage.

Take a million dollar payment, and not deliver what you promised.
