Help DU! College Republicans on attack

The College Republicans of Shippensburg University have stooped to a new low (not that shocking actually).

Today is "Marriage Protection Day and Heterosexual Pride Day" according to the thuggies and they clever ploy to get people to support them. They have made it that if you wear sneakers today you are supporting marriage protection and they've given NO advance warning of this stunt. Luckily it's a sunny day and many people are wearing scandals anyway but these thugs are ridiculous.

They've called a white segregationist hate group who has flooded the campus with people passing out hate flyers about gays and some are even playing bagpipes and carrying hate flags!

What I'd like to know is how should we respond powerfully. Now the GLBT group is holding a silent protest but I think there could be more effective ways to curb this event. What would you do in this situation.

and you could spot the freepers on the "wear jeans for gay pride" day...it was quite fun to see that they would alter their wardrobe just because they hate someting so much.

but unlike that day it was heavily advertised on our campus the day and time and when to wear them. The campus also printed out little pins which were the only symbol that one was participating and we got a lot who did.

These thuggies are beyond ridiculous.

Just make a statement that anyone who wears a t-shirt is in favor of GLBT issues and gay marriages.
Ridicule them with the same stupid tactic.

Then, when they confront you on it and accuse you of being homosexual, just say "so"?

and put out a flyer saying that anyone wearing pants is in agreement.

Then put out an anti-gay flyer saying that everyone who doesn't support "gay marriage day" should wear a skirt or kilt.

That ain't even high school behavior-that's some shit 6th graders would pull.

I'd say these people aren't much of a threat to the commonweal. Ignore them or, at best, ridicule them.

I always wonder why some allegedly "straight" men are so consumed over gay people and their lives. If one were secure in their sexuality, one wouldn't really be bothered about gay people.

Well, in all fairness, there have been "Gay Jeans Days" called to promote equal rights... and on a college campus everybody wears jeans!

Now THAT sounds like something the local press might be interested in covering. Get a hold of the hate flyers and take some photos of the hate flags and the folks carrying them. Mommie and Daddy might be interested in seeing how Junior is spending his time (and with whom) while he's in college on their hard-earned dime. The Shippensberg locals might be interested in seeing what's going on in their fair city. At the very least, you can get it into your campus newspaper and force the college multicultural/diversity team to address the behavior... which they most definitely should!

BTW, that nonsense would not be tolerated here at UD. Those hate flag wavers would be out on their backsides faster than they could blink.
