Letter distributed today on streets of Baghdad - Oh Sh*t
Baghdad Warning
The following letter was distributed on the streets of Baghdad today:

To our families in Baghdad:

Do not leave your homes and do not go to school, universities, offices. Do not walk around in the markets and to all supermarket owners and commercial markets: close your shops from April 15 2004 to April 23 2004, since your brothers the Mujahadieen in Ramadi, Khaldiya, and Fallujah will transfer the resistance fire to Baghdad, the capital, to help out Mujahideen brothers from the Al-Mahdi Army to free you from the darkness of the occupier, and so you have been warned.

Your Brothers the Mujahideen companies

From God victory and success

1. So maybe Baghdad will be another Stalingrad.
This is not good.
I pray for all in Iraq.

2. Yeah, that sounds like a plan. Brilliance on both sides.

4. Stupid tactical move on insurgents part.
Baghdad is where the bulk of our forces are.
They'd do better to maintain the urban fighting in Fallujah.

6. They've put out stuff like this before
and it hasn't really amounted to much. Hopefully this time it's just more bluster.

10. Tactically, though, it makes sense.
If this information has been distributed before then it would be difficult to discern when a real attack would take place. Psychologically, if I were a soldier in Baghdad, repeated warnings like this would whittle my nerves down to a nub.

8. Why does this story remind me of the Irishman
drafted into the English army in WWII? His wife wrote him mourning the fact that he wouldn't be home to dig the garden for planting. He sent a letter back to her (knowing it would go through Brit censors), saying "Whatever you do, don't tell anyone about the guns buried in the garden!" Shortly thereafter a whole platoon of British agents showed up back home & dug up the garden nice as you please.
