Florida voters give Jeb Bush good marks

By Bill Cotterell

DEMOCRAT POLITICAL EDITOR

Gov. Jeb Bush remains popular with Florida voters, according to a statewide poll released Wednesday.

His overall favorable rating in the Mason-Dixon Florida Poll stood at 54 percent, unchanged from last July. Voters gave Bush high marks on his handling of education, jobs and the economy. He scored below 50-percent approval on health care, growth policy and protecting the environment

"I think Bush remains popular for two reasons," Ausman said. "His brother has just run 2,800 TV ads in Florida, and there's a halo effect that helps Jeb Bush. Also, there's no organized Democratic spokesman to answer what the Republicans are doing. This has allowed the governor to dominate the media day by day."

7. 2,800 ads, a halo, and no Democratic spokesman...
and he's still at 54% ??????

Doesn't sound so hot to me.

Is 54% good, bad, or normal for a Florida governor?

4. Now that you mention it, I haven't seen any polls either...
...usually, the polls are commissioned by a newspaper (sometimes working with a TV station in the same city) to generate an easy story. But I can't remember when I saw the last one...considering most of the papers are very right leaning (aside from the St Pete Times) maybe they don't want to know what's going on out here among us voters.

6. whats Jebby says about Kerry
snip:
MIAMI BEACH - Florida Gov. Jeb Bush issued a harsh criticism of John Kerry - accusing him of repeatedly flipping sides on issues - as he told Southern Republican activists Friday his brother is a man of his word.

"You get a little dizzy if you listen to John Kerry explain his recent position on any particular issue at the time," said Bush, brother of President Bush. "There really is a tale of two Kerrys."

snip::(LOL.now this quote is a real doozy)

"George Bush is a decent, honorable man. He may not have all that fancy rhetoric that people up in Massachusetts think's real important," Bush said. "I don't think that's a measurement of one's character. My brother is a plain-spoken, direct-talking person and I think people in this state appreciate that a whole lot."
