If WMD found/ is Woodward book a set up?
I don't usually originate threads but I have to tell you...
this Woodward book certainly sounds like a departure from his last book about the clown in the hypnotic tie.

Either Woodward really IS a decent unbiased journalist or he's setting bush up as hero of the world regarding Saddam and WMD.
(*bush the great fearless leader was the only one that knew and went against all the odds to protect America* bla bla bla--I can just hear the spin now)

Call me paranoid, but I think they are getting ready to trot a little late July or early August WMD surprise out of Iraq and this Woodward book signaling bush as the man who would not be dissuaded could be the PR set up.

What do you people think?

Is this viable (or did I keep my eye on the tie too long the other night?) LOL

1. I don't think so
If we had WMDs, we'd know about it by now. Osama's one thing - no one's claiming Bush lied about Osama. WMDs are another thing altogether, and you also have to consider that Tony Blair's ass is on the line too for this. I believe they'd trumpet a WMD discovery ASAP (remember the multiple times they thought they found em?)

2. They could pull a stunt that would fool the vast majority of Americans
quite easily. However, the international scrutiny would be far too much I think, for them to get away with something like this.

6. Given the absolute
control over the media in Iraq, I'm not sure the international community would be able to disprove (or even question) anything that goes on there.

There are already reports from Tehran that the WMDs are being planted but the Iranian press doesn't seem to get much notice from the rest of the media world.

3. No
Woodward is a good journalist and this book is more about Powell than Bush.

4. No
and consider this (just read it on another thread) - if the WMDs are there, why aren't the Iraqi insurgents using them? Who are they afraid of - Saddam? Thought that was an interesting point.

5. If they found WMDs in Iraq now
If they found WMDs in Iraq now, the question would be how Bush managed to get them in there to be "found". I don't think even these guys will be that foolish to risk the fallout from the exposure of such a deception.

There were no WMDs and anybody who still says otherwise is either a fool or a Bush apologist trying to justify continued support for a policy that was based on lies and has turned out badly.

If Saddam had a biochemical arsenal as the junta claimed, he would have used it in the early hours of the invasion, when the invading forces were amassed in one place and such a strike would have been most effective.

8. there were two reports over the last two months. . .
from an Iranian newpaper that spoke of WMD's being imported through the southern port of Iraq. There was confirmation from an anonymous member of the IGC. Then more recently, there was a report from the same paper, of US generated ingredients for biological weapons being transported under the auspicies of humanitarian deliveries in trucks with Jordanian and Syrian plates that were headed northbound. It purported that the CIA were the operatives. Who knows whether it's true? It was on http://commondreams.org then mysteriously disappeared. But with Bush's ominous inference during his press conference that WMD's may still be found, it makes me a little weak in the knees.

12. Yes, the possibility of planting is what's freaking me out
I read the same kind of rumors and heard the idiot braying about WMD at his press conference.

I hope this isn't something the bush reich could pull off but nothing would surprise me!
