should parents know if their minor children have medical procedures done?
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 04:25 PM by maggrwaggr
My son is only a year and a half old, and my stepdaughter is eight, but I think it's silly to ask if parents shouldn't know if their minor children are getting MEDICAL PROCEDURES done.

You're damn well right we should know. And I'd want to kick any doctor in the face who performed ANY medical procedure on my kids without my knowledge.

2. I know what you are saying and I agree...
It amazes me that my kids couldn't take tylenol at school without a Dr.'s note, but they could walk into any abortion clinic if they wanted to and get an abortion.

I also think that only people with kids should be arguing this.

Should parents be able to force their adolescent children to reproduce?
OR
Should parents be able to force their adolescent children to have elective surgical procedures?
One fear that people don't realize is that some young people fear telling their parents because of their authoritarian nature. It is entirely possible that a parent could intimidate an adolescent so much that the reason they don't want to tell is they don't want choice taken away when they go to the clinic. They should always feel comfortable with the possibility of being able to change their mind.

5. Children should not always feel comfortable
Children are not mature enough to make many decisions that effect their bodies. They can't go on a field trip, get an aspirin, pierce their ears without parental/legal guardian permission. And that's the way it should be.

The vast majority of parents have their child's best interests at heart. To put all children at risk for some small minority who might be uncomfortable is moronic in the extreme.
