Who is your favorite Conservative?
Now I was just thinking about this, this morning and you know I kinda think it is a tie between George Will and Pat Buchanon. They are Conservatives, but not necessarily Repukelicans, and I can forgive some things when they, at least, stray from the party line. What say all of you?

BTW Purji and I should be back online regualrly next week, so try to keep the subject alive for awhile....thanks!

1. George Will?
You must be joking. The guy wears a bow tie and has a stick a foot and a half up his butt. Every third column is a backhanded racist attack.

No, I gotta go with Buckley senior.

50. Example of racism?
I usually read his columns and can't recall a single one that I would call racist. Perhaps you would be willing to point one out to me.

5. Buchanan is a walking talking
piece of garbage. He's the same guy who, at the 1992 republican convention waved a gun above his head and hammered illegal immigrants, AIDS sufferers, Homosexuals, and most other minorities. It is my belief that he, in part, caused George Bush ,Sr. to be beaten. Now that wasn't a bad thing, but Buchanan left the republican party because they weren't conservative enough for him. That's ridiculous.

16. My favorite conservative is Howard Dean
You have to draw a distinction between Republican and Conservative in todays political climate. Shrub and his neocon posse could hardly be called Conservative. This was originally meant to be a fiscal philosophy (balanced-budget, no debt, small gov.). I have often called myself a fiscal conservative and a social Democrat.

19. I agree.
Buchanan as I've previously stated here is the Classic type of conservative who isn't afraid to debate from a fairly intelligent, reasoned approach. His type actually still believe in their dogma strongly enough to generally avoid outright ad hominem attacks upon their opponents. He's still a bigot and a homophobe, but I can't help but feel a tad bit more respect for him than I hold for the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Ann "McCarthy" Coulter, the "Neo-Conservative" types who will spew forth pure, raw verbal sewage about the opposition if it gets them the attention and the media edge that they're looking for.

39. He is the main reason I even watch "The McLaughlin Group."
He has more sense in his little finger now than * has had in his whole body his entire life.

As we watched "McLaughlin" a couple of Sundays ago, I had to explain to my brother the difference between Buchanan and the neocons. (And Bay, Pat's sister, was absolutely hilarious on "Real Time" two Fridays ago.)

36. Buchanan, McCain, Tucker Carlson
Buchanan for the reasons others have listed. 90% of his positions are awful, but on the other 10% he brings up valid and neglected points. He talked about the continuing drain of U.S. jobs and workers' desperation in the 80's when other politician would.

McCain because I could/can imagine him being a president we could be proud of, had 'the fix not been in' in 2000. (this phrase taken from a Buchanan quote during the campaign run-up . At the time I thought B. was just talking about the Repub. primary process. Now I wonder if he knew something more....)

Tucker Carlson just because he's even-tempered and funny.

That's Lugar as in Nunn-Lugar program. Besides, now that Senator Lugar chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, we don't have to shrivel up with shame the way we did when the completely infernal Jesse Helms held court.

Amo Houghton, for all that he's a wealthy man, voted against the repeal of the estate tax. He's also known for being one of the politest, nicest people on the Hill.
