Freepers Disgusted At Eco-Family -- BIZARRE!!
Edited on Thu Apr-22-04 10:44 AM by K8-EEE
Wow! I can't believe the hostility aimed at this family just because they are ecology minded. One of them said "these people have sick minds!"

It's like they think there is something NOBLE about not giving a rat's about trashing the Earth. Truly psychotic!

4. intolerance and hatred
that's what explains the reaction.

These are people who have such a rigid world view, who are so fundamentally insecure about themselves, that they cannot stand anything or anyone who is different. This comes out in the visceral, irrational hatred so often spewed by the right.

These are the people who fasist and neofascist groups appeal to, and who are recruited into brownshirt-type gangs.

These are the Bush regime's raw recruits for the coming war against democracy, freedom, and decency.

19. In their view... it is indocrtination - but somehow they are silent
about indoctrination that occurs in religious right private schools... or in religious right homeschooling. Sorta belies the premise of their objections.

5. It's reminiscent of the hostility that some drivers have toward cyclists
and pedestrians, to the point of literally wanting to run them down.

I've actually seen an SUV "tailgate" a furiously pedaling cyclist on a city street, and when I was in Austin, Texas a few years ago, there was a letter to the local entertainment weekly paper from a driver who bragged about deliberately trying to scare "candy ass" cyclists. (Yeah, the he-man encased in a 2,000 pound vehicle picking on an unprotected human. Just who is the "candy ass" here?)

I think people like that are motivated by such supreme selfishness and obliviousness and are so frequently surrounded by like-minded people that an example reminding them of alternatives is deeply threatening on a gut level.

11. Meh, I don't like cyclists either
Where I go on vacation in Maine, I always yell "Lance sucks!" whenever I see one of them.

But that's pretty sick--chasing them in SUVs? They have as much right to the road as anyone.

9. "Freepers", "disgusted" and "bizarre" all in the same thread title?
Hitting all the bases, aren't we?

WRT to the content, they're quite nuts. It dovetails perfectly with something posted here yesterday about a woman in Oregon who started a group that took out a full-page newspaper ad denouncing the sustainability movement as seeking to brainwash our population into accepting "international green socialism".

:wtf:

These people are just plain crazy. They actually take pride in trashing the planet on which we all have to live.

"13. Teach your offspring to reject the silly Christian notion that mankind somehow should dominate the planet and "rule over it".

Also, teach them to step out of their evolutionary position and save the planet, save the whales, save the spotted owl, save the salmon, save the wombat, etc."

Save the wombat! And the dingbat!

20. Allure Of The Freak Show
It's a sick, guilty little habit that I picked up here on DU -- I'm not proud of it either! Kind of like gawking at a trainwreck. I can't believe those people....I've never met anybody who thinks that way, what a freak show!

They only respond positively to destruction and waste. I honestly can't figure them out. They're like the stupid bully kid who breaks things for fun. I think they're all sociopaths.

26. K8-EEE, now that you have come out I guess I will too.
I go to Lucianne.com all the time (or I did till they blocked me for saying something bad about our great president). It is just too much fun to resist and I'm just telling the truth so am I sinning? Anyway, if you talk to them about the environment they say things like I think I'll go and drive around aimlessly in my SUV and then stop at McDonald's for a burger and fries. Yes they think you are nuts it you try to do any of the green things.

27. IMO, you figured them out perfectly.
They are dangerous to everything that lives. They are a direct threat to the survival of our planet. For this reason alone, we have to insure that freepers are voted out of office and never again attain majority power in government. If allowed the opportunity, they will eventually kill everything, including themselves, because either their thought processes cannot project and subsequently cannot grasp the fact that their current actions impact the future, or they simply do not care about the future.

Republican policy for the past 34 years has consistently overturned environmental protections critical to the preservation of our natural environment, which they will eventually destroy if we do not prevent them from doing so.

Happy Earth Day! Save the Planet - Unite against Bu$h.

25. I'm not defending Freepers, but i've seen some nastiness here...
when any thread about home-schooling comes up, which is one of their great loves.

I'm not defending them and I'm not masochistic enough to read that thread, but just remember Freepers and wingnuts do not have a monopoly on intolerance.

Major stockholdings in it, yes.
