in their time of need? No BS, just out of fellowship for humankind?
This is the perfect time to mend our fences with them and to encourage North and South Korea to heal themselves?

What do you guys think?

2. Exactly
This was almost exactly the same thought I had as soon as I heard what happened. Been at work all day and haven't heard any news, but I've been wondering all day if we were going to be human enough to offer assistance.
I don't think I can remember a time when a country has had a tragedy like this and we DIDN'T offer some kind of help.

Ooops....what am I saying?? I forgot who was presently squatting in the WH.
Ah well... one can hope, I suppose.

3. That would backfire.
I don't think big bad Kim Jong Il wants to be humiliated in front of the whole world by accepting aid from the "Capitalist running-dog lackeys".

9. Iran: DAYS later and AFTER Bush caught hell for NOT
offering.

The Bush administration does NOTHING from altruistic motives. They were shown up badly in world opinion, so they caved in enough time to have everyone else already have volunteered before us.

Bush will volunteer us, AFTER every other nation on earth has volunteered. He just wants good publicity, not to really help.

6. How can we not?
We know how it feels to have 3,000 crushed and vaporized.

N Korea silent as disaster relief offered

Goh Kun, South Korea's acting president, has expressed deep condolences to the North Korean people at a meeting of senior Government officials.

"If the reports are true, it would be a very unfortunate accident," Mr Goh said.

"Related government agencies first need to check the exact situation in North Korea and if necessary should prepare humanitarian aid as soon as possible."

The United States also says it is prepared to offer emergency assistance to the Stalinist regime.

"We have always been willing to help the people of North Korea with humanitarian needs, (but) we don't know enough about the situation yet to know whether there is any assistance that might be necessary," spokesman Richard Boucher said.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Alexander Downer, says Australia would offer assistance to North Korea if it asked for it.

"The problem there is getting information out of North Korea," he said.

"We've so far got no official information from the North Koreans themselves and no request for assistance.

"We'd be prepared to provide appropriate assistance within the confines of our ability to help them."
