Still about judges in California?
I don't know if Gray has nominated and or filled every
vacancy under his watch in California, but I'd hate to
see Rove Inc. West get to decide.

Anyone know how many vacancies need filling and
whether the governor gets to decide on them?
I heard the CA Supreme Court Justices are mostly Pete Wilson
nominated...more Republicans in other words.

United States Courts for the Ninth Circuit

Court of Appeals with Two Vacancies
District Courts with Eight Vacancies

As of July 23, 2003, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit had two vacancies on the 28-judge court. For most of the past five years the court has had between five and ten vacancies that need to be filled by presidential nomination and Senate confirmation. The President has nominated individuals for both of the two positions.

As of July 23, 2003, there were 8 unfilled vacancies on the district court bench. The vacancies exist in the following districts: the Central District of California (one), Southern District of California (five), Hawaii (one), and Oregon (one).

4. Davis has been almost TOO careful in that regard
Very hands on in confirming elected and appointing judges to the bench in CA.

Very aware of that being part of his legacy, since that's where Jerry Brown ran into trouble with Rose Bird (a truly stinking part of CA judicial history--if you aren't familiar, read about it with an empty stomach.)

5. It's too late to edit my original thread but
I seem to have been prescient today with the Supreme Court
ruling coming down just minutes after...I wonder about
the makeup of the CA Supreme Court being mostly Republican
nominees that Davis is getting a fair ruling on this
recall.
